Thelema Posted November 14, 2003 i was just wondering if anyone knew what the most hard-to-grow psychoactive shroom was? have there been any spore samples from rare species that have been lost or unfruited?
mesq Posted November 14, 2003 The hardest Psilocybes to cultivate would be the ones that havent been cultivated successfully yet. If you are looking for a challenge Psilocybe semilanceata would be good feather in the cap for a pioneering mycologist.
spiders Posted November 16, 2003 spot on - Ps.semilanceata is a common mushroom to north america and europe, yet its cultivation has only occured once or twice that i am aware of. Ps.baeocystis was one that i found the hardest. Never got it infact.
Rev Posted November 19, 2003 Ps semperviva not for the difficulty but for the tiiiiiime... Ok heres a shot at difficulty rating.. 1 being the easiest, and onwrards getting harder The evidence for this might will be found by perusing the past posts of the person mentioned) assumption #1 you live in the southern states with good rainfall - basically mushroom country 0. Amanita muscaria ( a no brainer, put spore water on tree roots and wait - not guaranteed but it doesnt get any easier - Ed) 1. P azurescens (very vigourous, eats most woods, transplant substrate -BM) 2. P subaeruginosa complex (very vigorous, needs casing mulch, transplant substrate - BM) 3. P cubensis (requires indoor setup, otherwise easy from spores or cultivated mycelium) 4. P mexicann or P tampanensis au natural in soils from rye grass spawn - Teonan 5. P mexicanna as sclerotia on rye grass seed 6. Probabaly a Gymnopilus sp - grown on sawdust spawn and put in mulch or logs outdoors ala shiitake 7. Panaeolus cyanescens and allies 8. Psilocybe cyanescens and the constellation of other woodlovers 9. Other dung lovers like P hispanica, P fimetaria, P weilli, P subfimetaria, P samuiensis etc 10. Grassland species like P semilanceata 11. Mycorrizal hallucinogenic Boletes Your mileage may vary
