synth site busts/phone taps in australia.. any truth?

I've been away for a while, so sorry if this has been brought up, but just read on the nook (post from mid-late july):

police have told many of my friends that all phones are tapped, and internet activity logged, so to all australians that logg onto any website, that are doing criminal activities, it is strongly recommeded that a proxy is used for your privacy, or Japp.

 

My life hs been made a living hell, as so has many of my friends,

 

It first started when the adds dissapeared, and then my paypal account was hacked,

 

this seems very familiar to that which happened at the hive, firstly they infultrate the system, become an admin, and then they just sit and continuously bust people, with no-one the wiser,

 

We always knew that this was going to happen, and we made steps to ensure longevity,

 

Within the last two weeks, some of the admins have made back-ups of the board, and I assume that it will re-appear soon,

 

A new domain name will be needed, but all that hard work, will not be lost, as i know how many members participated in the site,

 

So this time we can stop all the theorys, and hope soon that hobbyist chemistry will re-emerge,.

 

I personally feel violated, and am very upset about what has happened, but the one thing that is important here, is that everyone knows that the old synthetikal is no -more, and was unsafe,

 

Unfortunately no-matter where the server is, police can easily gain access to people phone accounts, and trace all members that are going to anywebsite, unless proper proxys are used,

 

oneday, i am sure this will all be worked out,

 

I gave it my best shot, and I hope all those back-ups lying around the place will come to good use.

People posting to places like synthetikal should always use Tor. You'd be a retard not to.

i was just more interested in whether it was true... AFP infultrating a website, taking over admin and using that to get warrants...shouldn't they be using those resources to hunt down pedifiles or something useful??

Sounds a bit suss to me ,not sure that they actually tap as many phones as people think ,but who knows ? Synthetikal is still up and runing and i was under the impression that the 'hive' went down after a change of owners of the server they used , it seems the site didn't suit their new image.

Just a point to keep in mind , synthetical mainly appeals to meth cooks and meth users can tend to get paranoid.

From what I heard yesterday monkeyZ, there is a lot more to the story than what you read, i.e. the guy running the website was doing it for profit and was hardly making it difficult for the feds to find him.

Generally if you're gonna run a site like that, you should have a certain degree of technical proficiency to ensure your "safety" and the "safety" of your users.

This guy did not, and got caught out.

Frankly the description of the raid and everything doesn't suprise me at all. Frankly we have survalance devices put into peoples homes if they are suspected of series of break and enters into houses. I'm pretty sure doing that requires ASIO to be involved ( it involves someone breaking into your house ) so a simply wire with telstra is nothing. So of you probably wonder why I did that little bit on the so-called secure private messages at shroomery.

Before 9/11 the highest per capita autorisation of phone taps in ANY developed country or state was in NSW. For the few years I followed the statistics they showed a staggering 20% increase per year.

I could swear i read a report on phone taps in Australia last year and they had gone up from 50 to 60 or something pathetic like that. Lets face it sites like this are mainly being used by beginners making sub ounce quantities of meth ,hardly the sort of crime to involve phone taps and crap. Just out of curiosity have they worked out how to tap digital mobile phones yet ?In this age terrorism i think the powers that be have got much more important issues to spend their energies on.

Again i point out the obvious , meth users are paranoid . If the site was selling glassware , reagents or finished product i would imagine it may be worth there effort. But as it is just a forum , and i would not be at all suprised if this sort of site fits into the US freedom of speach thing.

Finally do you really think those that are actualy doing the big synths ,and making big money hang out on these style of site ? I doubt it.

Nb: Funny this has come up as i was starting to think my house was bugged in the last few weeks .

2b - I think you are misinformed. NSW had about 500 phonetaps in 2000 (sorry, memory is failing me). I doubt this would have decreased.

In fact, just found a report that states we have over 3000 legal phonetaps per year in australia. More disturbing is that only 1% of all warrant applications is rejected. Nearly 60% of these were about drug matters.

as far as i know, mobiles can be tapped quite easily. not with a scanner device, but simply asking the newtwork for access to calls from a specific mobile. sms's are even more prone, as they are stored by the networks and can be viewed/reviewed by authorities at a later date.

a guy in WA (gosnells) was recently reported in the paper as being arrested for drug manufacture based on evidence from 'intercepted' mobile phone calls. sms have been viewed by warrantant in relation to drug shootings (and i believe some footballers had there sms's monitored because they were associating with crime figures implicated in a shooting??). you may have also seen on the news the attempted london bus bomber that was tracked accross countries by his mobile phone.

I listened with astonishment as the Maquire Fields tantrum unfolded ,the dumb dick driving the car that killed his mates aunties house was bugged and they released the sound recording of her telling him to lie about what had happened. Kinda puts it in perspective if they can think it worth while to bug a comission house in Maquirie Fields ,they could bug any one.
