trucha Posted September 19, 2005 More images of another plant showing something similar to Strangebrew's macrogonus aff. huanucoensis and purported aff. huanucoensis AtHuntington http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/gallery...s/a_h_kt_07.jpg At CCC, believed by my source to be identical with the material they examined at the Huntington These two photos are by Zifko http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/gallery..._h_Zifko_03.jpg http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/gallery..._h_Zifko_04.jpg Cutting of CCC plant was provided by Zifko New tip (not yet rooted) starting to grow http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/gallery...s/a_h_kt_01.jpg New tip coming along nicely but showing a bit of oddness (also note conjoined areoles) http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/gallery...s/a_h_kt_02.jpg Next images are after some passing moron broke off the tiny tip pictured above. http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/gallery...s/a_h_kt_03.jpg http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/gallery...s/a_h_kt_04.jpg New growth starting adjacent to injury http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/gallery...s/a_h_kt_05.jpg Areole closeup http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/gallery...s/a_h_kt_06.jpg [ 19. Gunter Posted September 19, 2005 I heard someone with a feel for these things say he suspected that the affinity Huanucoensis was allied with Juuls Giant, at least in appearance. What do you make of this?
teonanacatl Posted September 19, 2005 i recently had a monstrose brdgesii do this, it produced a areole a tthe top and a pup came out hope it continues though i doubt it
strangebrew Posted September 19, 2005 http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/gallery..._h_Zifko_04.jpg This shows similar semi-monstrose growth to my clone as well. EDIT: Rib shifting also seems to be a common trait. [ 19. September 2005, 03:32: Message edited by: strangebrew ]
spunwhirllin Posted September 19, 2005 Great pics. I happened upon a mac in a trade that seems to be displaying a sort of monstrose type growth. Anyone know what might cause this? I also have a Bridgesii doing the same thing, I've not observed any indication of what could be influencing this type of growth. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y176/pell...e/diplop161.jpg [ 19. Gunter Posted September 20, 2005 That looks very cool!!! I wonder, on some clones of the CCC montrose pachanoid the growth is normal for some time and then grows monstrose, could the situation with your mac and bridgesii that you mention be similar? I may not know what triggers it, but I love how that macrogonus looks.
spunwhirllin Posted September 20, 2005 Thanx. The mac and bridgesii show atleast 1/3 normal growth at the base, then boom, they decide to freak. They start going monstrose and variagated. Not that I mind,I just wish I could understand why,and perhaps harness the potential and apply it to other species. Gotta love the freaks in the crowd. The crested plant behind the mac is a ccc monstrose that went crest. I have another ccc shortspine that has remained perfectly normal in its growth for two feet and about four years,It grows painfully slow. I'm continuing to wait for the two shortspines I was graced with that were collected from the wilds of peru to morph, atleast one of them. I expect them to eventually.
