Benzito Posted July 15, 2005 What sort of Hoodia is that in the second photo? It looks different to my Gordonii.
mr toodly Posted July 15, 2005 The Hoodias were identified as belonging to H. gordonii. I can provide better detail if you'd like. The former is Ariocarpus fissuratus.
mr toodly Posted July 15, 2005 r. Jackson: I consumed a portion of the plant on the right [putative H. gordonii]to no effect. I cut two columns into coins, chewed and swallowed. I think the spines did a number on me abdominal organs.
mr toodly Posted July 15, 2005 Hopefully this will aid identification.

Benzito Posted July 15, 2005 My Hoodia Gordonni is at home, so i can't look at it right now, and no digital camera. But, if I'm correct, mine is more of a pale green colour, with a hint of purple underneath. The spines on mine are the same colour and texture as the rest of the plant. Mine came from Hamilton's World of Cactii. They've got Hoodia Ruschii there aswell. So, I assumed the I.D. was right. [ 15. Evil Genius Posted July 15, 2005 The Ariocarpus looks very old. Do you know the exact age of this great plant! Thanks for sharing!
Benzito Posted July 16, 2005 Yeah, I double checked my Gordonii this morning, it definitely has pale green spines. Slightly lighter colour than the pale green body. I'd go with Darcy on his I.D. though.

mr toodly Posted July 16, 2005 darcy: The Hoodia looks more like H. macrantha or H. ruschii (like Benz said). The pinkish spines don't look like gordonii. Just a suggestion though. There is too much red in the photo. The spines are in fact white.
Flip Posted July 16, 2005 I've played with the image and tried to match RJacksons description along with my seedlings color.
