For those of you cross-registered at The Nook have a look at the "T. macrogonus (?)" thread, it might be of great interest.

Hey, if you guys haven't looked at the "Trichocereus macrogonus (?)" thread yet I think you would find it alone worth joining The Nook. Sunchild (Archaea) and I are certainly working on some issues that offer a lot of information. There are a ton of photos I've posted in the thread and it is a veritable feast of ideas and cactus porn.

If you hit the forum another equally detailed thread is the one titled "Regarding Trichocereus." I highly recommend you joining just to see these posts. You will not regret it. I promise.

If you don't want to respond there feel free to here.

Trout, I would love your input! If you don't want to join I'll find another way to get the information to you.

Torsten, would it be possible for you to organise a situation with the nook where members of this forum don't have to register there to view threads?

I'd like to keep my forum whoring to a minimum :P

Oh ph, I'm willing to do the nitty gritty of it, but nobody has the connexions that T has.

You don't understand! If I register an account on another forum I'll probably have to quit my job. It's an addiction!

i know what you mean mate and i try aswell to stay away from registering at too many forums, but the nook is worth it.

it's ms smith's home base and the chemo disscusion with winder, ion, and me (a member name, not actually me, i am lilhelper @ the nook) is top notch stuff.

edit: "ion"

I almost feel ashamed for having the discussion (and some debate :) ) there and not here.

Its good stuff for lovers of Trichocereus.

And in my opinion the pictures alone (Mikes) are worth joining to see.

Ok so i've got a pic here of the nook forum of a T. Macrogonus that M S Smith posted notice the coloration of the newer growth is more blueish ? is that the same with all cacti - anyway i mine is kinda like that. Also the spines of my cacti were cut back (not by me) so they are alot shorter aswell. But hey im probly wrong anyway an ID would be great :D normal_TmacrogonusQBS016.jpg

there are all sorts of privacy issues involved as well as forum password incompatibilities. I mean, I can't even get the shop, forum and gallery into the same log in becuase they all use various encryption etc.

In short, no.

You just gotta get them to all authenticate against one amalgamated database

That would be cool.

*thinks*

I just wrote out some interesting comments in conclusion about certain species in the "Regarding Trichocereus" thread.

Young Tripper, see if you can get better pictures, particularly of the tip and its spines. It looks about right, but I'm not going to commit at this point.

Now if only someone can explain what "authenticate against one amalgamated database" means. Tehehehehehe.

I've been waiting for the New Cactus Lexicon to come out for what seems like years now. Any idea on the publishing date?

It will certainly be interesting to see what they make of Trichocereus, but I expect them to not be conducting original field work, but pulling together others' works, which of course means more of the same confusion.

I would assume that you´re right with your guess! The colour and position of the spikes looks very macrogonoid to me.

Macrovianoid for sure.

(just kidding about that name)

I would like to see the lexicon too, but I think you are right Sir, it will be confusing.

Clym certainly looks ot be a T. macrogonus in my opinion. Check out Clym's spines, they are blackish. This is described for the species by Backeberg. Obviously the dark color fades in time to grey.

Love that plant!

Anyhow, if you've been following the T. macrogonus thread at the Nook have a look at the last couple postings. I put the "clencher" on my "T. peruvianus KK242" as T. cuzcoensis arguments (not that more was really needed though I suppose). The thread is "pinned" at the top of the cactus forum.

Hi Rev, the bridgesii brevispinus looks very kewl! It would be great if you could post some pics of yours when big enough!

I enclosed some pics of a Trichocereus Macrogonus. The Corky area that you can see on PIC 2 is something which i encountered very often on Trichocereus Macrogonus. Especially in Cultivation. Best Regards EG
