not a spach

I would guess Trichocereus smrzianus

smrzianus was the cactus which really got my interested in columnars. There isn't much information to be found on it however I don't think it gets very tall. It's hard to tell from your pics but here a closer shot of one.

Hey dodie, I don't think yours is a spach. - too many ribs but it might be a huascha if they can get that big and fat. There's a guy from WA on the American gardenweb cacti forums looking for an ID on something similar to yours and someone's replied they think it might be a huascha. Check it out!

How many spines are comming out of those areols Dodie303? between 5-8?

It looks similar to the kind that Ive been seeing all around the Gold Coast, there are some simply huge 5-12+ armed mosnters around, one of them is comming up to 2 stories high!

Ill take some pictures when I have my digicam back.

Dodie, take a shot from directly above it.

That seems to be the best view for getting an idea of the shape/number of ribs.

To me it looks like a Trichocereus Purpureopilosus i have. Isnt´s the purpureopilosus familiar with Tr.spachianus?Or with huascha`? I forgot about that.

It seems that you will have to wait for it´s flower to be sure. Due to it´s fatness i´d say this isn´t a smrzianus. In my opinion it also isn´t a brevispinulosus or grandiflorus. I doubt that a Grandiflorus would get that errect and thick. But maybe there are more than one commercial forms available.

I finally managed to upload a pic to the shaman australis gallery.
