Sallubrious Posted February 11, 2016 I wonder if they'll have RFID chips built into them like some other countries are doing. One of the links on the page linked above mentioned new security features but didn't go into much detail. I suppose I could bung one in the microwave and see if it fries. ghosty Posted February 12, 2016 nice one. "tactile" features for vision impaired. brail? glad they are starting with the $5 note, as I think it's shit.
zed240 Posted February 12, 2016 nice one. "tactile" features for vision impaired. brail? glad they are starting with the $5 note, as I think it's shit. Brail wouldn't be too hard to emboss onto these plastic notes. As long as it didn't flatten down too much over time. And our current notes are already different lengths and sizes so they can be told apart without using sight. I have seen a blind shopkeeper use a wooden rule with marking notches on it to tell which denominations he has been given which allows him to complete his job and offer change also. An extra tactile feature would help support this. I assume this will also remove the queen from all of our notes preparing our currency for when/if Australia becomes a republic.
ghosty Posted February 12, 2016 removing the queen is a good step. cant see what good is that old woman who was old 40 years ago when i was young. that thing doesnt age nor die. is she human? I live in queensland, the most draconian and stupid of all Australian states. the queens land.. get rid of the old bat!

J Smith Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) The media release says the same people will be on the new notes. Edited February 12, 2016 by J Smith
zed240 Posted February 12, 2016 The media release says the same people will be on the new notes. I somehow missed that it mentioned that the people would stay the same. I would hazard a guess that all may change by the time the designs are actually unveiled though and the queen may yet be removed. I think famous and infuential australian people, (not politicians), would be much more appropriate. We shall see......

ghosty Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) hmm... hope they have changed, and ironically, matured a bit by now. The $100.00 note i find horrid. has a real Burma look to it =( Don't care for any of em myself, as they stood way back then anyhow. And, whose idea i wonder was the text boxes for Australia? LOL. LOL. Umm... NO thanks. More curiously, does anyone here have any designs they would like to see as our notes? somebody should take the market and produce "wattle" t-shirts. cant find any. might be some good money in it. I'd do it myself but got too many projects at this time. I'd buy one for national wattle day (and other days). Edited February 12, 2016 by ghosty
