Brendo Posted October 14, 2015 Hey there, I was wondering if anyone can tell why this Caapi has started putting out what look like variegated leaves. My only guess is lack of nutrients. I haven't fed her at all over winter & have only fed with seaweed once this season, I plan to resume a regular feeding regimen over the coming weeks. As you can see though, not all the leaves are doing this.. Weird. Anyway any help is always appreciated, I've included some pics. Thankyou! 2
theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted October 15, 2015 There was a thread sometime ago about this, I think consensus was a virus
katu Posted October 15, 2015 Stuff like this can be really hard to diagnose...Cold, viral, nutrient related, pests?? Providing she's still putting on growth I wouldn't be overly concerned...
Alice Posted October 15, 2015 Pretty sure it's a virus, I think most Cielo (or whatever the most common one in Australia 5-10 years ago) show that at some stage. It doesn't seem to bother them. I couldn't ever really correlate it showing up with any sort of stress. But it's very common. I wouldn't worry about it, it never caused mine any harm and they grew to monsters! I guess you could call it variegation (which can occur due to viruses) but it only seems to affect some parts of the plant, at least the ones I've seen. I would think of variegation as being something that's either there or isn't, not some of the time or part of the plant. Any botanists/biologists that want to chime in?
Brendo Posted October 15, 2015 Awesome, thanks guys. She's throwing out tons of new shoots so I'm not overly concerned.

sagiXsagi Posted February 6, 2021 I have 2 of them in the ground, I think they are both from the same original plant.. Both of them keep doing some variegated parts, mostly in the begining of the year, like Alice said and like the pictures show, but most of it is green.
