I felt the wire of the headphones get caught up in something and I heard something fall behind me. Philocacti Posted August 25, 2015 I doubt it'll develop and bloom. Zelly sent me cutting with flower buds. They didn't develop....they just fell off. I don't have pollen, however if it bloomed, I can try the cement method. If anyone has any advice on how to make it develop and bloom....I'm all ears. Should I try to root the cutting? Derkshaman Posted August 26, 2015 No way! That's cool. The TPM clumping form (the common ones) aren't known to flower right? That'd be cool if these do. I have one myself, it's new and still rooting. I was wondering if this is like the other forms, where you need viable thorn aeroles to grow? Philocacti Posted August 26, 2015 Kadakuda had a grafted cutting, he got it from mitosis as well and it produced a flower bud, but it never bloomed. I think my chances are low as mine broke from the stock. I grafted it yesterday but I doubt it'll take as I never grafted something this big before. I had trouble balancing it on the stock. Evil Genius Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) It probably flowered because it got the flower hormones from the stock. So if you want to raise the chance of it flowering again, regraft it to the same stock. If it´s too big, just make a couple of new grafts into the same and/or similar stocks. It´s very common that difficult plants can flower on mature stock. They just take in the hormone from the stock and go wild. Philocacti Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) Hey EG I actually made up a theory that it flowered cuz it broke from the stock, like it's last chance to pass on its genes. I had a hylocereus that used to cut off its bigger limbs. Every time I cut a limb, the cut off limb starts producing flower buds. But the planted stump never produced flower buds. So I thought maybe this crest is acting the same, since I have another bigger bridgesii crest grafted to the same stock species and also same height but it's not showing any bud fuzz. About the stock and it's maturity, I have a huge melted wax (80 cm) that is grafted to a 90 cm Stenocereus but it also didn't produce any buds yet. So all of this is confusing me as I obviously don't understand the flowering mechanism/pattern of these columnar cacti. Philocacti Posted September 3, 2015 Right now I wish I could miraculously get these flower buds to develop and bloom :D I accidentally knocked over the scion. It took but it wasn't securely balanced on the stock. So I regrafted it again. Looks better this time. I can't tell if the top fuzz is developing, but the fuzz that's buried in the groves is developing sepals, so I'm hopeful 9 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Those flower buds can't be coincidence. By the way, here's mine: I wish I had more thorn aeroles on it, it kind of worries me. Also, any tips on grafting it? It looks very difficult to me. It simply worries me because I know with my other form of monstrose bridgesii, that the 'tips' eventually stop growth and a new section is put out from a thorn cluster; if no thorn clusters are present the plant is halted forever. I don't know much about the crested variety though! I'm hoping to learn how to graft well. I think I'm capable of grafting with seedlings on pereskiopsis, but I've never had success grafting larger pieces to san pedro or myrtillocactus, although I only tried twice. I think what I was missing is a humidity chamber of some sorts following the graft, and perhaps i Needed a sharper type of razor. I wouldn't dream of cutting this plant! Philocacti Posted September 16, 2015 Since I have no experience with Trichocereus flowers, I thought the bud on top stalled or aborted. On the broken graft, one seems to have stalled and the other one is developing nicely. However it buried so deep I can't take a picture.
