Rooting Brugmansia vulcanicola in water/or soil?

Recommended Posts

I've rooted regular brugmansia cuttings in water before but Apparently the vulcanicola ,sanguniea, varieties are more prone to rot and becoming a mush when left in water.

From what I've gathered , this variety will only grow roots in warm/wet soil(coco, peat, perlite, mirical grow) and water can't be used.

I would like to do my best keeping these cuttings alive , if anybody has had success rooting brugmansia vulcanicola I would appreciate some tips.

You need to find cuttings with pimples. Then put in water in very shaded dark enviro. Good luck. Its not imposible but luck plays.

Just be sure to remove all but the tiniest leaves...

Thats reminded me to check on my sanguinea cuts im trying to root. They are throwing roots but very limited amounts.

I've been told they aren't. There's a brugmansia group on facebook and according to people there who live and breath brugs it isn't here. Some hybrid seeds are as you can import them, but not the pure vulcanicola.

I would absolutely love one of them too. Just like a sanguinea but with even nicer colours!

I've got multiple cuts(with root nodes) sitting in perlite , coco , & peat.

Although water has always been a success factor for rooting my brugs , I've heard negetive reviews about the colder varieties sitting in water . I don't want to loose these puppies so I'm putting them in soil. (Harbors more contaminants & I've failed using dirt in a few regular brugmansias.)

Maybe I should leave a cutting or 2 in water and see if this bears truth.

If I can get the plants rooted , I should be able to help spread the plants around.

For rooting cuttings that are prone to rotting in soil, try a mix of sand/perlite/vermiculite/cococoir. I've got roots on sanguinea by wrapping stem in sphagnum then plastic wrap
