Philocacti Posted March 6, 2014 So I just returned from Thailand. There I visited Deaw cactus nursery. I bought 4 Lophophoras from him and didn't buy more specimen from him cuz of the money and I wasn't sure if I could pass them through the airport. So I got this L. crest which Sabry told me that it's possibly a L. Williamsii caestiposae crest L. fricii L. williamsii, I got this one to diversify the genetics in my L. williamsii in my collection. The funny thing is when I bought it, it didn't have any flower buds and when I got it out of my luggage I found out that it has a flower ......... and now another flower bud When I found out that the L. crest I got might be a caestiposae crest, I went back to the nursery to get a L. w crest but it's was too expensive, so I got a grafted crest. The problem is I won't be able to degrafted it and root it, so I'll find a way of grafting part of it and according to how it will grow, I'll try to root it. Bare rooted Lophophora crests look more appealing to me than grafted ones, IMHO I tried to convince him to sell me this crest, but he wanted 1670$ for it and no way can I afford it, so I convinced him to give me a small part of it. He uprooted it but we couldn't find a way to take a cutting off of it, the whole crest was one tight ball I noticed that he doesn't have any Trichocereus and other columnars and the reason for that is the thai weather is too humid for them. All in all, I'm very happy with what I got and Deaw (if that's his name) is a very kind man and he loves cacti and knows how to grow them.

Philocacti Posted March 7, 2014 Thanks guys Philo, whats all the crust like material cover the caes crest lw? that looks pretty nasty... Zelly, I have no clue but I only noticed this crust after I got it (cuz I was really excited at the nursery I didn't look carefully) I suspected it's some sort of insect infestation, so I covered the whole crest with anti-bacterial/anti-fungal powder. I don't know if it'll help, but I'll graft part of it as soon as I can to make sure I save the genetics, just in case
Evil Genius Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) I think it´s probably a very bad Spider Mite Damage. Red Spider mite. But I´m sure you get that under control with a careful treatment. Do you have some kind of Pocket Microscope? If not, get one. They are cheap. Like 5 Bucks cheap. And make sure to check them now and numerous times after the treatment. Those guys are hardy. You know, like Rocky. "Aaaaaaadrian!!!". If it´s an old damage, it should heal. Second Option would be very very bad sunburn Scars. But that would have been one hell of a Sunburn. But still, wonderful Plants! Edited March 7, 2014 by Evil Genius

But since the weather here is not so humid as in Thailand, I don't think they'll thrive for a long time.
Philocacti Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) I potted them up and placed all except the L. caestiposae crest on the roof. Today I found a bite in the L. fricii and the grafted L. williamsii crest. But since it's only one bite I guess the little guy learned that they're way too bitter for his taste. He didn't touch the L. williamsii though. This little guys doesn't come close to any of my cacti, except he ate my one and only lithops I had. Edited March 8, 2014 by Philocacti
