Appropriate time to graft albino seedlings.

Recommended Posts

So, I have 3 albino/variegates from my latest sowing. I was wondering if anyone could shed light on when the best time to graft and albino is. Should I wait for an areole to show up or should I just do it ASAP?

Complete Albino, ASAP! They only survive for weeks to months at max. Variegateds MIGHT produce chlorophyll on their own, so it depends on how variegated it is. The more Albino, the less likely it is that it´ll survive. I like to wait with Partially variegated Seedlings until they are bigger because it improves their survival Rate!

Yes. It's a pure bright white "Trichocereus boliviensis" from koehres seedling. It's way smaller than the others and hasn't developed any areoles yet. It's about 2 weeks old and it's not growing. I'll graft it tomorrow. Then I have a few from zelly's hybrids that are white/red/yellow.

Hey hostilis,

I posted about an albino trich seedling I grafted in "TEK COMP" post #28. I don't know how to link it sorry but have a look it might help. My albino is still going well.

I would love to see some photos.

Cheers

I'll post a picture as soon as I can find my damn camera battery charger.

I grafted the seedling today. I'm waiting for a new camera battery charger to show up right now. I'll take a picture ASAP. I have one SUPER blurry picture that you can see green dots and a white dot from my phone camera. But it sucks so bad you can't really tell. I REALLY hope it takes!! Keep fingers crossed. I used my best pereskiopsis stock and put it close to the top where it was soft and all those yummy undifferentiated cells and growth hormones are located. So I have high hopes, but it was a VERY small seedling. We'll see. Wish it luck everyone!

Here's a very blurry picture. My phone was recently dropped in water and the focus button doesn't work :( And my digital camera battery is dead and the charger disappeared. Horrible timing. I really wanted a picture of this before I pulled it out of the soil. Oh well. I think the graft will take! (Pray to whatever god is out there that it does)

So!!!!!! The graft took!!!! YAY!!!! It puffed up and i can see that color around the seam that it takes on when the graft fuses. Pretty stoked and I hope that it grows okay.

So... something amazing happened. I was sent some Echinocereus pentalophus cv white dove x E. scheeri var. gentri seeds. I planted 5 of them. 3 germinated and 1 of them is albino, then another is pink and white and another is yellow.

Check it
