cactuscarl Posted November 18, 2012 I was just admiring my kai then the first post I read today was this one. Kai is one of my favorites of all my cacti here is a pic, its not the best as it doesn't show the full aquar colour but you get the idea
cactuscarl Posted November 18, 2012 Crap pics sorry I'll post a better one when my phone charges and I can take it outside. I'm not sure what Bruce looks like so post a pic.
lhb2444 Posted November 18, 2012 Here's some pictures of a cutting of bruce gifted to me from a generous member here showing some nice new growth. I don't own a Kai (yet!) so can't comment on whether its similar to bruce but hopefully these photos can help you out a bit.
bℓσωηG Posted November 18, 2012 When i had both they didn't look at all similar , Bruce is a real rib dropper , the Kai i had looked like a normal bridgey ... it is possible it was mislabeled as the person i got it off said he was 90% sure it was Kai , im a stickler for labeling plants myself, i read Kai is meant to be semi mutant /rib dropper also but mine wasnt..... Bruce is a bloody nice cactus though thats for sure!
tarenna Posted November 18, 2012 The Kai that I received a couple of years ago looks nothing like Bruce. Kai seems to be a pretty stock-standard bridgie.... Will try n get some photos of my Kai and Bruce
qualia Posted November 18, 2012 so, is bruce the same as "melted wax"?
cactuscarl Posted November 19, 2012 You can't really tell from that pic but my kai is aquar/blue there is very little green on it just the very tip is light green and the older stock is a dark green. Its been very consistent with growth no rib changes or mutations
PhoenixSon Posted November 19, 2012 will throw up a pic later on in the month, of my kai morphing and also of my bruce cuttings...
naja naja Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) i purchased a small Kai clone a long time ago from SAB. I put it in the ground and it didn't grow much. I moved out and it got neglected and turned yellow. When it was in a 5L pot, it grew slow, terminated likea sausage and reshoot again as 4 rib. Recently I rescued Kai from my old house and have potted up into primo mix in 5L pot and am finally giving it the TLC it deserves. cactuscarl Posted November 20, 2012 Well my "kai" looks nothing like that :-( I was wondering why it isn't more popular as mine is one of the nicest bridgessi I've seen. I have a bunch of "clones" that don't look anything like they are supposed to I have 2 eleen that aren't even similar. Ppl selling fake clones are total assholes and just make it harder on everyone
GoOnThen Posted November 20, 2012 I have two Bruce clones both are quite small and both grow very slow compared to all of my other trich's Cheers Got

Ppl selling fake clones are total assholes and just make it harder on everyone I have a heap of Eileen, even two branches on the same plant look completely diff. One of the peculiar habits of her is her constant rib and spination changes. I got all mine off of Ed, so know all are Eileen and they still look diff from each other. cactuscarl Posted November 23, 2012 (edited) That kai is the same clone I have awsome I was starting to think mine wasn't a kai. They do look very similar but the spines are quite different Edited November 23, 2012 by cactuscarl
chilli Posted November 23, 2012 (edited) I just came from looking at a pup on one of my Kai's and noticed this thread.. mine looks very different from the little Bruce, which is very slow growing as GOT says. I will take a photo of each soon, I just have to wait for the camera memory card backup to finish. okay I failed at that, will try again tomorrow Edited November 23, 2012 by chilli
nitrogen Posted November 23, 2012 (edited) I've heard the bruce clones grow slowly - the bruce x macro "sausage" seedlings I've got are growing very fast though - the quicker by far than the super pedro x psycho0, scop x super pedro, super pedro x scop, and super pedro x J3 crosses I have going as well.. The bruce x sausage were planted a year after the other 4 crosses but are tallest of the bunch Edited November 24, 2012 by nitrogen

nitrogen Posted November 30, 2012 Here's some pics of the Bruce x Sausage seedlings - I love this cross - thx Strangebrew! I'll get the resizing thing down in a bit here - these are just linked over from photobucket
CβL Posted November 30, 2012 Wow, that cross there is indeed awesome. Look at the angle of the spines, as well as the more obvious rolling-wave sides. The last two could hold surprises yet too.
