Torsten Posted August 28, 2012 I think we should start collecting donations so you can add fairy wing selfies to the cactus porn thread ;) There is only one thing that is worse than doing nightshift, and that is to do rotating shifts. The body's clock needs a week or two to adjust to a new shift, by which time rotating shifts usually rotate. So my recommendation for peopel with rotating shifts is to volunteer for all the night shifts as no one wants to do them anyway. if your job is already all night shifts then you're on step ahead. trying to change those shifts on yoru days off is what will make you sick. If your family life allows it the best thing you can do is to stick to the same shift every day, although try to get at least some sunlight at some stage - a few hours a week is enough. So doing your gardening at night is not only the best thing for your health [given your shift work], but you should embrace it. You may also find that you are drawn to working night shift because of delayed sleep phase syndrome. This affects up to 10% of males to some degree. Some so badly they can barely function during normal hours. I myself have this and found myself drawn to night work over the years which is lucky because it is incurable and can have disastrous health consequences if you try to fight it. In such a case it would be even sillier to try to not do the gardening at night. When I lived in sydney I used a painters lamp for gardening. Now I use an LED head torch. I don't do much gardening at night because my phase allows me to do this in the afternoon, but since 10pm to 4am is my most productive time I will do whatever I feel needs to be done in that time. etherealdrifter Posted August 28, 2012 because of work,my body clock is set to night. i really don't wake until midnight. Fighting the night clock is disastrous and not productive..........besides, that's when i crush all those little bugs eating my pretties
DeadStar Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) I think we should start collecting donations so you can add fairy wing selfies to the cactus porn thread ;) You will find i am easy and cheap. Loose change is all you would need. Everything else you wrote makes a lot of sense. I have always been more active at night and this is what lead me to night work. incognito Posted August 28, 2012 I work nights, usually 7 to 7 six days a week. Sleepings no issue in days off with a little erbal relaxant. My biggest issue is eating. And manic coffee addiction. I lost 15kg from not eating. I was either working or sleeping, just totally lost my appetite. But was functioning mentally 200%. Took Vietnamese food to revive my hunger, and since returning have made more of an effort to eat better, but still strapped for time, do eating On the run which = shit food. I'm doing it all wrong. I stay awake with adrenalin. It'd when you stop going in nightshift you fall to sleep. And everyone is easy to con into a coffee break, so adrenalin plus coffee keeps us charging and focussed. Nightshift sucks though as personally I don't know what day it is most days, you miss out on day to day things, miss sunlight But if your own a mad crew you create your own little universe. You learn a lot about a Person after a week of nightshift ;) Dont think I could work for a jerk on Nightshift though.
C_T Posted August 29, 2012 yeah, haven't done a day shift in over 7yrs now, all 12hr nights. rotating to days is painful, but its better for you in the long run since we really do need those days in the sun. the bodyclock never does a full flip, only adjusts a couple hours, so melatonin and core body temp is against the grain, making less efficient sleep architecture. so its important to get some sleep at night when you can.
