Marcel Posted June 14, 2012 Can anyone tell between Lepista nuda (Wood blewit) and Lepista personata (Field blewit)? What have I here? I found a whole patch of them today. My first blewits! Very pleased with myself!
0 NSF Posted June 15, 2012 They don't look lilac like a wood blewitt. That doesn't mean they aren't and it doesn't mean they must be a field blewitt they are just missing that purple hue in the pics. Nice pics though.

0 ferret Posted June 15, 2012 dunno, i usually see some lilac colouration in the gills and stem even if the cap has none. Which I can't make out in those pics. Fluffy purple mycelium at base of stem?
0 mira Posted June 15, 2012 Be careful! In the top pictures it looks like there are some spores indicative of Cortinarius (rusty orange instead of the white/very light blue of Clitocybe) on the stick. Cortinarius archeri is very common at this time of the year in Australia and it is of course poisonous.
0 Marcel Posted June 16, 2012 (edited) No, they're definitely some kind of Blewit. I know my Corts pretty damn well, and they aren't Corts. The spore print is a pale salmony pink colour. A bit like Caucasian baby skin... And they have the Blewit smell, based on what my field guides say (like slightly funky orange juice). They also have that distinct skin texture on the pileus that I recognise from photos of Lepista spp. There weren't any young ones, but some of the smaller ones had more of a purple/lilac hue. Thanks for the replies, folks! Edited June 16, 2012 by Marcel
