Optimystic Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) Discovered my latest two alby grafts didnt make it So I just sat next to them but I couldn't sit there very long... I thought the butt end was gonna make it but it turned yellow and shriveled...The other one looks like its hanging on by a thread but blah wishful thinking lolSo today Im thankful I got my first grafting fails behind me... at least confirmed fails I dunno what I did wrong but maybe I waited too long or maybe the cool draft last night was too much for the 2 also one of the maybe albys I didn't graft went everclear on me ehon the flip side, the others are looking great and half of the first 8 have pretty much taken off, while some others have just bubbled up and put out some new aereoles... out of 19 grafts so far I don't think im doing all that badbut time will tell my actual success rate...I moved some of my early rounds of grafts under lights that are not quite as powerful next to my seedlings, but much closer to the light...I watered them a bit too... so yeah, somewhat of a bummer but I have plenty more to be thankful for and proud about... So I spent some time feeling the pain.. Theres one little skinny runt that its very light green and I just dunnoits even skinnier than the albino spach so Im maybe gonna have to meditate on that one before attempting a graftMeanwhile... took some pics of my top 4 fastest growing seedlings so far... These look like little green headed shrooms! :D Validus X LJ Labeled Pach, Spiny! Not sure if they are new arrivals or my eyes are just getting better. Mavrik spray wiped my spider mite infestation on my whole garden in about in about 3 rounds. Didn't have alot of luck with neem or pyrethrum. They really build up on you pretty quick, I thought alot of my leafy plants were done for until I finally that stuff and saved them in time. Was very fortunate to purchase this amazing cutting of Validus recently, it's huge and so heavy, will the centrepiece of my garden I think. Absolutely in love with this plant! Also planted a heap of seed today which was a mixture of recent purchases and some great seed very kindly given to me, thanks guys, you know who you are. I thought it might happen, but dismissed the idea. So drainage trenches, drainage trenches, drainage trenches - is the take-home. This is my mutant project - we have a T bridgesii cristata, a caesposita, and now this cross growing on the same pachanoi: And I potted up my favorites from 3 Australia hybrid seed batches I grew out: Super Pedro x J3: Super Pedro x Psycho0: T bridgesii "Bruce" x T. macrogonus "sausage"/(Yowie?) Also, anyone know what strain this is? I totally dig this fat blue peruvianoid from Australia - heard maybe it was "Sharxx Blue" or something? modernshaman Posted February 11, 2013 (edited) Yes pupping from every areola is common when grafted on pereskiopsis. After a little more growth it will stop pupping. This has happened to almost ALL of my trichocereus grafts. You should remove the pups and graft onto other pereskiopsis if possible. The pups on my grafts just stop and all the growth goes to the main head however they may slowly 'steal' some energy and slow down overall growth. GoOnThen Posted February 12, 2013 If they are all pupping that early it could be the fertz that you are using. I don't recall any of my Trich grafts pupping but I might not have been pushing them as hard. I have only seen this happen on a loph graft, the original button disappeared beneath the monster-pups which came from every single areole.
