Statakak Posted March 1, 2015 I got stung by a stinging tree(Dendrocnide moroides) today. But realy it wasn't too bad. Not half as bad as I remember as a kid. Stung a bit, but not like wasp bad. Felt pain in the lymph node under my arm. Then felt a weird ichy burny crally feeling, like a hairy catapiller cralling around under my skin for a few hours. But now I can only feel a faint itch that gets a bit sharper if I scratch it. Makes me feel like I'm getting old, loosing my feeling receptors and all. Who else wants to talk about bindy erwin?? And no Zen Peddler I'm don't realy want to talking about bindy erwin, I'm just in a "I'm more than twice her age and i'm going to work to rake leaves tommorow" mood at the moment. but I did have to walk around a stingray today, as I was walking the boat out to deeper water, if that counts? or was it just wrong to mention that.... DiscoStu Posted March 11, 2015 The Republic of New Atlantis was a micronation created by Leicester Hemingway (1 April 1915, Oak Park, Illinois – 13 September 1982, Miami Beach, Florida), the younger brother and biographer of writer Ernest Hemingway. As the location of what he would later describe as "the world's smallest political entity", Hemingway chose a site above a small seamount in what were then international waters, 12.87 kilometres southwest of Jamaica. At the time of its foundation, on 4 July 1964, the territorial pretensions of New Atlantis anticipated the future construction of a large, habitable man-made island; in practice they were limited to a 2.44 x 9.14 metre steel and bamboo raft, which Hemingway anchored to the floor of the Carribean Sea with the aid of an old Ford engine block. Hemingway proposed to use the novelty of the New Atlantis concept to generate capital for the establishment of an oceanographic research institute; these plans appear to have received the tacit endorsement of the Jamaican government, whose US ambassador is reported in the New York Herald Tribune as describing Hemingway as a “decent, well-meaning soul,” and New Atlantis as variously “good” and “sound.” The project came to an abrupt end in 1966, when the raft was destroyed during a tropical storm. Some reports suggest that many of the structure's component materials were pillaged by local fishermen prior to its final destruction. Hemingway went on to found a second, similar micronation, at a different location, in 1973: the Republic of Tierra del Mar.

DiscoStu Posted March 23, 2015 In the many body-oriented disciplines and psychologies, the jaw is associated with anger and aggression. When these emotions are habitually withheld and left unexpressed, they may become “frozen” on the face as a perpetually clenched jaw or tightened musculature resembling a scowl. Just as a dog clenches its teeth when angered or challenged, so too do human beings channel aggression through the face. From an evolutionary perspective, the process of biting and chewing allows for the release of what psychologists call dental aggressive urges

DiscoStu Posted March 25, 2015 “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”
Seldom Posted March 25, 2015 "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age." - H P Lovecraft
FancyPants Posted March 26, 2015 ^^^ A recent accidental acacia inhalation gave me the idea what far-evolved beings think of the human race in this current place in Space/Time; the image of a monkey in a tree exploring it's B-hole, examing the mined contents, sniffed, then ate the contents thereof. "They" were so benevolently confounded/amused that I was in HYSTERICS of laughter tears that I could hardly breathe for about ten minutes. So is it "merciful", Lovecraft? Or should we wallow in spiritual retardation for another few million years?

Distracted Posted April 28, 2015 A great tastes-just-like-your-mums chocolate cake. No-one knows exactly what this cake tastes like, as it contains nanobots firing off taste-memories of the best chocolate cake ever made by your mum. An orphan rescued from being raised by a brain-bugged robot in the Mort Desert, once hit the news because he had never tasted chocolate cake before. He reported that the real taste of the cake was something like a mix between cardboard and plastic bottles. Rumors of an alliance between a garbage recycling firm and the cake factory has led to a sharp drop in sales lately.
