tripsis Posted April 9, 2011 (edited) Rather than constantly make new threads, I might as well make one ongoing one. If I could edit the title of my last one, I'd do that, but I can't. Some of these are probably going to be a long shot, but can't hurt asking. So to start it... Anacardium occidentale - the cashew tree. Would love to grow this one. Seems there's only one commercial farm of this species in Australia. Daleys Fruit are seeking propagation material, so they're no help. Oxalis tuberosa - oca. Illicium verum - star anise. I really doubt anyone has this, but if you do, please let me know! Pimenta dioica - allspice Syzygium aromaticum - clove That's it for the moment. Will add to this later... Cheers! Zaka Posted April 10, 2011 Irie Tripsis, I think you're right! Ya need to move out here! Don't have Oxalis tuberosa.... Respect, Z
tripsis Posted April 10, 2011 I reckon so. All those plants would do far better in your climate than mine anyway. Bar the oca, but hey, I'd trade that in for the rest with no problems at all. Maybe I should look into real estate prices somewhere in the Caribbean...
Scientician Posted April 10, 2011 Hi Tripsis, Unfortunately only 3 of my cashew plants survived Yasi & they are only one foot a piece. But..... I got my seeds from ebay sent over from India. They took a while to arrive but they were definitely viable 15 out of 20 was my initial count until a fence landed on them. My local nursery is pretty good & they usually have allspice in stock they may very well have some of the others too. I will be going there on Wednesday so if you don't have any luck before then I should be able to help you out on some level. Peace Muskrat
tripsis Posted April 10, 2011 Hey Muskrat, I appreciate the help. If you can get anything on that list, I'd be more than happy to reimburse you.
zelly Posted April 11, 2011 tripsis- are there any import restrictions on Oxalis tuberosa ?
tripsis Posted April 11, 2011 Seeds are permitted zelly, but anything considered a live plant (tubers, cuttings, etc.) would require an expensive import permit.
WoodDragon Posted April 23, 2011 (edited) According to Wikipedia Illicium verum is found in southern NSW, in addition to its native China. I haven't seen anything beyond this passing reference, but I am certainly curious... Edited April 23, 2011 by WoodDragon
