Yeti101 Posted October 27, 2010 Sounds good to me. What outlets are you sending it to?
watertrade Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) I think it reads pretty well and comes from the right angle. With media releases it's a fine balance between giving the media something juicy to play with & actually saying what the thing is about. I think yours does this. RonnySimulacrum Posted October 27, 2010 Hey Yeti that is the next question really if anyone has suggested people or places to send it i welcome the feedback. we need a list of people to target? Sounds good to me. What outlets are you sending it to?
faustus Posted October 28, 2010 ronny, good work, it reads well. i recommend the following: - drop the capitalisation of The in your reference to Univesrity of Melbourne and Council for Spiritual Practises... but this is more of a personal preference thing - lose the square brackets [] e.g. around MAPS, and use () instead but IMHO perhaps most importantly: - regarding the contact e-mail, make in an @entheo.net address. i might be coming across as pedantic, but it makes the press release and EGA far more compelling and credible to the press if you do this. @gmail used in conjunction with a PO box contact address instead of something lik,e a melbourne CBD locked bag will affect perception about the stature of the event and EGA.
faustus Posted October 28, 2010 as for places to distribute: - student paper of melbourne uni (paricular focus) - student newspaper at unis in all of melbourne - youth-oriented radio like FBI and JJJ (something like hack would be good) - ABC radio - approach individual media outlets individually (time consuming tho) - street press e.g. drum media - australian drug law reform league also, consider paying an organisation to send the press release to media outlets on your behalf. this one costs $275: http://www.seekingmedia.com.au/index.php?id=11 but i think it'd be $275 well spent
RonnySimulacrum Posted October 28, 2010 Thanks faustus - i will give this feedback to the team, not sure we can make all those changes but will see what others think. thanks Bro
RonnySimulacrum Posted October 28, 2010 If we update the release it will keep the same link, so if anyone feel like print or email to psychology, psychiatry, Chemistry departments or other relevant networks around Australia and New Zealand it will be appreciated. or maybe pinning it to any notice boards that our community has access to that might turn heads. or you could print the web poster http://www.entheo.net/images/EGA10A41pgv3.pdf That would be much appreciated
synchromesh Posted October 28, 2010 It's great, Ronny. Did you write it yourself? I agree with what faustus said, but I also recommend the following: * Remove the space which exists in "an" * Turn "therapeutic application" into "therapeutic applications" * Turn "Rick Doblin PhD" into "Rick Doblin (PhD)" * Remove the space which exists in "organisation" in the third paragraph * If the poster has the blue MAPS link, then remove it (slack, aren't I ) * Turn "therapeutic effects of psychedelic drugs" into something like "therapeutic effects of psychedelic substances" * Perhaps turn "(3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, also known as "Ecstasy")" into "(3,4- methylenedioxymethamphetamine-also known as "Ecstasy")" * Perhaps turn "harm reduction model" into "Harm Reduction Model" * Turn "psychedelic drugs and plants" into something like "psychedelic plants and chemicals" So yeah, just small changes really. Nevertheless, I still think they're worth doing. Especially when this sort of thing needs to be as professional as possible.
RonnySimulacrum Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) Thanks synchromesh, will pass these on This document was a group effort of 3 EGA people including myself. It is funny as most things in EGA are group volunteers projects/experiments that are often hard to coordinate as EGA does not have an office or HQ so to speak, but rather different fragmented group and individuals crunching away around the country on their area of interest. The Best example of this is the EGA journal. Speaking of the EGA journal, from what I can understand this year’s addition is going to be an outstanding achievement, so look out for it. EGA is a real group community project that appears to run more like a terrorist cell than an organisation, fitting really. synchromesh Posted October 29, 2010 Cheers, Ronny. And I will definitely look out for the next journal from Project Mayhem.
