san p Posted May 4, 2010 thanks for the comments and i.d comformation. at the risk of being shot for not researching first...if one was to pick these and just dry them in a cardboard box for a few months until suffuicient research has been done on how to them would that be the way to go? cheers san p
WoodDragon Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) I seem to remember someone once saying that muscaria is a somewhat sticky mushroom, and captures mould spores on its upper surface. Apparently, unless they dry in a couple of days they are soon covered in mould, and useless for further research. If one were living in a country where it was permitted, drying in an oven at 90C for a few hours is supposed to do the trick. Apparently they go crispy and are easily powdered when done, but I guess one would have to confirm this procedure with someone who has the good fortune to live somewhere where doing so is not proscribed. There are other threads here and here on the Corroboree that go into greater detail. Edited May 4, 2010 by WoodDragon
kindness Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) Someone else will probably better answer this but for Oz ones they are pretty disappointing from others accounts. I wonder if they are any different in nz. You should have a whole range of other cool ones popping up at the moment you are probably already all over this stuff but have you looked at the following? http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12280575 Edited May 4, 2010 by meanies
∂an Posted May 4, 2010 once in a country where amanita is legal I found some and hung them in the back of a cupboard and forgot about them. bad move, they turned green and rotted after a month or two. you need to pass moving air over them. i believe the traditional preparation is to dry them over a fire (a la santa stockings), but a dehydrator or fan forced oven with the temp very low and door open would work just as well. perhaps someone more knowledgeable can comment on various drying strategies for converting muscarine into psychoactive ibotenic acid and muscimol... perhaps some heat is required. Magicdirt Posted May 4, 2010 A. muscaria without doubt. They gave me a sickly feeling and a bad experience. Most people don't make a habit out of them, so a low dose can't hurt. Not the best trip but if there's nothing else it can't hurt to try. Nice pics too.

san p Posted May 4, 2010 WHAT IN THE HELL ARE THOSE! hi,yeah ive seen those on the nz shroom list,im pretty sure they are the same as ones i have used quite alot in the past and never seen on the net anywhere else, they grow into multi clumping balls, sort of like a l.caespitosa :)when left to mature.they go extremly blue/purple once picked and they are hollow on the inside. quite a strong shroom. the local council sprayed the only area i knew them to grow because they caught onto the highschool kids picking them every year,so ive never seen them again. thanks for all the comments, ill just forget about the amantias for now,but research so i might be ready for next years. cheers san p
