Chiral Posted January 18, 2010 Would it be too much to ask, or possible if we could put together a thread dedicated to all known named ozzie trichocereus cactus..? Could a rough idea for the format be something like:- Bruce: T. Bridgesii variety named after ........ First collected from.......in 19..... Columnar cactus noted for it's........ insert image here....... and so on and so on... I think it would be nice to showcase all the oz varieties here at SAB in a dedicated thread then people could go to the thread when they need find out about a particular oz cactus they are interested in. People who discover new ones or need id for a possible new clone could use the cactus ID pinned thread...if it found to be a new or unknown variety then it could be added into this one. Sound like a lotta work...if anyone wants to send me the text and a ton of photo's then I'd be quite happy to compile it and start the thread... ... anyone...? Pass I'm looking your way... Chiral Posted January 18, 2010 http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5509&view=&hl=+jess +lance&fromsearch=1 geebus...i had no idea that there was so many...what's the point in all that may I ask...? is it any different to me giving all my plants there own name...and then spreading them out into the community...no wonder there is so much confusion... I guess we could start with the most common ones people are aware of and add others as pictures and info becomes available.
PD. Posted January 18, 2010 is it any different to me giving all my plants there own name...and then spreading them out into the community nope lol. I just dont see the point to naming absolutely everything especially regular ol pach, sure if its a variety you havent really seen anywhere else and want to remember where it came from/how you found it then its a good idea so it dont get lost in your collection to become "Idunnowhereitcamefrombutitsdifferent". Or if you have a shitload of a diff lookn plant you have spread around it makes it easier to refer to said material with a name eg Norma rather than "that tricho VS won on ebay and we all chucked in for" also naming does come in handy when Xing trichs as its good to know the parentage of hybrids imo. im a lil busy to be puttn a list together and i havent a camera atm to get pics, maybe laters...... J Smith Posted January 19, 2010 Don't forget Psycho0, Yowie etc!! I don't think Lance is a Bridgesii - the one I bought from SAB looks like the one referred to as Lance in this thread (the fat one in the white pot next to the tbm). I gave my Lance to a friend so I can't show you a pic of him. http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13614&view=findpost&p=125264 Here is a thread where Torsten states it is probably a Scop and explains how the name Lance came about. I'm guessing the Arizona Cactus situation is likely to be how some of the other SAB clones got their names too. http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12218&view=findpost&p=110075 I think putting pictures of the named clones all in one place is a great idea!!
shruman Posted January 19, 2010 Lance is not a bridgesii sharxx & why all the capitals?, species-lower case. Actualy I think its a pretty good example, I think it probly fits best in the scop species but I know others have differing opinions & may even be synonymous with Super Pedro, Shaman Bob, spiny scop, tantra scop, bif fatty, & was also known as cordobensis at one stage, Heh. They all be Tricho Hunab. "Gotta catch em all"
sharxx101 Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) Are all these even trichocereus or a mixture of all sorts...? All trichocereus. They are a mix of peruvianus / peruvianoids, bridgesii's / Bridgesiods / pachnoi's pachnoids and scop hybrids as far as I know. I thought Lance was a bridgesii my mistake! I dont have Lance but I thought I seen it on the sab shop as a bridgesii. The capitals are because I copied them from Torstens orginal post Most clones are pretty hard to tell what they are like Con, Jess and some of the others, some have distinct features like eileen that are easily identified. I have tested a few people that know their bridgesii clones and I asked them what they were they got them wrong. Without a label or a name it is just another bridgesii... sharxx101 Posted January 19, 2010 Here is my four ribbed bridgesii that looks TBM in the middle, this is a very unique cactus and one of my many fav's The guy that sold it to me labeled it as cereus peruvians monstrose, but it clearly is a bridgesii, LOL happy me http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp163/sharxx101/IMG_7720.jpg http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp163/sharxx101/IMG_7721.jpg

It is a list created by torsten that I updated with some of the new clones. Thanks for the link Shruman Might as well keep this thread going no need for a new one IMO, as a few people have put a bit of effort into this one.
PD. Posted January 20, 2010 I sent chiral a lil list with mainly named plants in my collection, it is in no way a complete list of plants or rock solid naming, just waht i call them or recieved them as, i sent it to chiral so he could make a nice clean thread with no discussion, just info and pics I got a lend of a camera today chiral so if i head out to my garden and the sun is in the right spot i should be able to get some really nice pics of the clones in excellent health/growth.
