Torsten Posted August 29, 2004 People in west africa probably wonder what the fuss is about, but for us (and the ethnobotany community) this is another significant step in making a species available. It will also ensure the future futility of restricting 5HTP supplements by allowing us all to 'grow our own'. This is a collaborative effort: Seed purchased by me with help from brian and imported by darklight. Germinated and grown by a friend of mine in the tropics. [ 28. friendly Posted August 29, 2004 Please remember and be very careful to not combine any Griffonia simplicifolia products with any Sceletium products or serotonin syndrome may result, and this is a very unpleasant experience for those who survive. I speak from first hand experience.
Rev Posted August 29, 2004 Nice Mine are barely hanging on - i really hope with spring upon us they shoot back They lost their last leaves today so they may have just made it over the hurdle I believe they are the same age as that one
Torsten Posted August 30, 2004 yeah rev, they are really tropical plants. Dwon here they just hang in there over winter, but up north they love it. These are not the plants that germinated with yours (those are still only 30cm tall), but I can't remember when exactly whese ones were germinated.
woof woof woof Posted September 6, 2004 Wow nice flowers T! Minehavent even flowered. ( I am still around) mainly lurking in the back ground. keeping very busy these days. Decided to go to school,.... "pharmacy assistant" he he he I have some pretty cool and openminded teachers :D besides school, I do a full time job... After having seen the pics I have decided to move the Griffonia's to bigger pots! I bet that that is the only reason they have not fully developed yet. Cheerios mate. awesome Pituri journey btw. -bijanto- Posted July 30, 2005 T, how long did it start flower after being planted from seeds? [ 30. July 2005, 14:29: Message edited by: -bijanto- ]
Evil Genius Posted July 30, 2005 Thank you for posting these pics! The Griffonia looks great! I had absolutely no luck in germinating this species. The Main Problem in my case were some molds which proverbially ate up the seeds before they could get a start. But I think i´ll give them another try sometime in the near future using less humidity and maybe a fungicide. I try to keep it all biological but in case of some more hardy germinators like Griffonia, the other way might be more succesful.
mescalito Posted July 31, 2005 A good day for US and a bad day for THEM :D Top work guys!
Rev Posted July 31, 2005 fresh seed is needed viability is a metter of a couple months tops i think Like anadenanthera (which has a viability of a year or more - but not 2) if it isnt happening within 48 hours it isnt going to happen medium moisture and high heat work best. no presoaking and no fungicides needed. in fact the fungicides made the losses worse prob by destabilising the flora on the seed coat within that 2 dat window the seeds swell and the endosperm does one of 2 things turns grey/black = dead turns white/green = alive roots emeger soon after and the next stage is painfully slow (down here in summer - tho it might be faster in the tropics where night temps are higher all mine died down here due to cold and fungus so i join the regular que again.
