Osprey Posted July 26, 2008 Here's an except from a great book that I think directly relates to this thread. The book is"The art of Power" by Thich Nhat Hahn. I can't recommend this book highly enough. For me,It helps to take a few deep mindfull breaths to quiet the mind before reading passages such as this: "There was a young man who came to Plum Village to become a monk.He had many difficulties because he craved recognition for his good looks and talent. His whole life he was looking for acceptance from other people. He thought he would find it as a monk, but he still suffered. If three or four monks were sharing joyfully and communicating well, when the young monk tried to join in,the atmosphere of joy stopped. It wasn't because they were trying to exclude him.His energy of demanding recognition dominated the environment and made it difficult for others to be joyful around him. One day I called him and said"You're seeking recognition is causing you suffering. You may want to experiment with being yourself and coming to others without the need to be recognized. If you use mindfullness to see the suffering and the needs of other people of the community, the need to be recognized will not be so strong in you any more. When you approach others like that, and if you have beautiful qualities and talents, they will recognize them. At first the monk resisted this.So many years of seeking were hard to change. But slowly,he began to have moments when he didn't seek and demand.Happiness crept up on him. We have ideas about what beauty is,about what we value, and these ideas may be obstacles to our happiness. We imagine things,we construct things in our mind, and we suffer because of it. We are afraid people are judging us,and it is this fear, rather than the actual judgment, that upsets us.The suffering is created entirely in our own minds"

The Dude Posted July 27, 2008 Goddammit Teotz stop being so self depricating and so apolagetic. It's enough we all give you shit, grovelling for forgiveness isn't going to impress us or help your self esteem any. Stop taking everything so seriously and most of all don't get your panties in a twist when you don't get or like what others are saying. be nice. and seriously stop fucking saying sorry. Garbage Posted July 27, 2008 Maybe Spanish is the language to be researching the whereabouts of the 'true blue'. In England the goings on in the Spanish Colonies are rarely given airtime or column inches,if an English speaking discoverer had gotten there first the English world would have filled the Southern America's with their progeny. Thus more past and present cultural information would have been legacied to us today. It was however the Spaniards that captured the south for Spain. They seem to be moving north today! I tried looking in German but found very little, possibly because Germany was conquered by the English and they too never had much say in early South American colonization. Tapping into local common knowledge is the best way to go about fiding what you seek. The Spanish were only interested in the gold of Eldorado and subjugating the natives so Spanish is by no means the best tool, short of learning an indian tongue it may be the best way to determine who, where, what and why. Garbage Posted July 28, 2008 (edited) I asked a Chilean lady some question today,my line of Inquiry did not make it as far as the 'true blue'. Information gleaned consisted initially of the potato headache cure, sliced potato are placed on the head and draw out the problem whereupon the potato turns black. This was medicine from a long time ago. I asked if it was a special Potato but she was coy. Next i learned that relatively wealthy Germans did turn up and occupy the south with their own communities, this happened when they left Germany during what was described as gas mask times. She drew a hand down over her face to help me imagine the gas mask. No Indios in Chile but the remnants of the originl inhabitants still live there!?! but they are poor even though they own most of the land. She threw an arm in a half circle to help me imagine the scale of land ownership. She went on to describe a large and beautiful house with both arms before revealing such a building could be built but the land had only an 80 year lease and as a tenant you would pay rent to a tribe who's name i didn't catch but possibly began with an A. The Inka were further north too. So near and yet so far. One can even look at their paper online. http://www.condor.cl/ Edited July 28, 2008 by Garbage

sharxx101 Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) Check this pic out I got this off a cactus farmer this is off a 25 year old plant that he believes is peruvianus. I showed it to a cactus specialist that sells all sorts of cacti and he said it is most likely a cross between peruvianus and bridgesii. http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp163/s...01/IMG_6806.jpg Edited September 16, 2008 by sharxx101
