Teotzlcoatl Posted June 28, 2008 Ew.... I'd spray those cacti with a hose and repot them with some good organic soil. I'd also stop using w/e fertz. you've been using. Stick to organics with cacti.
incognito Posted June 28, 2008 (edited) weird.... its not scale, is it? could you use a toothbrush to remove the substance, and see if it reoccurs? looks a little like a soft scale, you seem to have a few seed there to collect also! i would attempt to remove the substance, stop watering for a while and see if the problem re-occurs. but really im just guessing re the scale, others here may have a better idea!! good luck! beautiful cacti there and by the looks of things they are profuse flowerers! edit- had a 3rd look at ur pics, the 'crystalline substance' that is occuring on ur cacti looks like it is also growing on the top of ur potting mix? this indicates to me that it may be some kind of funghi,?? ifthis is the case maybee give them a position with better airflow and a few hours of direct morning and evening sun? Evil Genius Posted June 28, 2008 (edited) Hi Zelly! eeh. That looks weird! The Blob from outher space. It looks like some scale-ish infection. Its definately not fungal. Try to wipe it off with a brush and spray with water twice a day in order to higher the humidity! New soil would be nice too! One that drys out very fast! This way you can spray it more often! And keep an eye on it! Definately take it away from your collection. Otherwise It might spread! bye Eg edit: icognito has right because of your soil! It looks like you have some weird shit in there! The growth on the plant doesnt look like a fungal infection though! Could be bacteria but i dont think that it is something like that! It looks like small insects that can easily be killed. Check the roots! Mealies? Edited June 28, 2008 by Evil Genius
AndyAmine. Posted June 28, 2008 yeah my bet is on mealy bug. Id use some insectacide but my plant are likely never to be consumed so I dont mind using it.

AndyAmine. Posted June 28, 2008 In that case I would suggest its the fertalizer or excessive salt buildup?
Teotzlcoatl Posted June 29, 2008 In that case I would suggest its the fertalizer or excessive salt buildup? That's what I was suggesting... Stop using those fertz. on your cactus, wash it off and re-pot it.
