This is my wonderful weekends collecting:

I'm hoping that this is either perunianus or pachenois. It was about 8 feet tall growing in an abandoned factory - hard up against a fence with barbed wire, squashed in the corner - as I see it, I freed it from its shackles. Two small offshoots about 8 - 12 inches long and 21/2 inches thick. 6 ribs and short spines. I's take a guess at pachenois. Puts my expensive eBay purchases to shame if it us

Nothing wrong with a nice cereus... Expands the collection, and they are also called the peruvian apple, the fruit of the cactus is edible...

Def don't be disappointed with it :)

I have 2 types of cereus (long and short spines) and the cereus peruvianus monstrose, all of which i think are just as cool as the trichos...

Thanks everyone, for advice.

I haven't had a Cereus before - they are kind of cute, all blue and long and prickly in a cactus kind of way. Will pot them in a week or so.

Cheers Gilligan about their fruit too.

Has anyone ever sampled cereus? I suppose indians has atleast so we would have known. Cereus peruvanius can hybridize with trichocereus. Might be some traces of mescaline in there.

Cereus peruvanius can hybridize with trichocereus.

Can they really? I'm not so sure, got any pics/evidence?

I find the cereus are a little harder to get started than trichs. Very reliable flowering though. Haven't had fruit yet. Peruvian apple sounds yummy though.

Has anyone ever sampled cereus?

Yes I know people who have consumed large quantities with little effect.

Might be some traces of mescaline in there

If there is it's too minute to really bother with.

Cereus peruvanius can hybridize with trichocereus.

I would be quite skeptical of that (two different genuses - most likely thing would be self pollination in one or both cacti, not a cross between the two). Would be very keen to be proved wrong though! Any pics/links/further reading?
