SunChaser Posted May 19, 2007 Are you getting these subs from the eastern suburbs Shroomeup? I went out today (the outer eastern suburbs) and only really found a handful, but that will do for now I guess.
Shroomeup Posted May 19, 2007 Yeah mate all were found in the outer eastern suburbs. The two patches I checked had literaly hundreds and hundreds of pins coming up and a friend says its the same at his spots very close to the city.

gerbil Posted May 20, 2007 Had some good dumps recently, these were brought to maturity with the recent rain, pinned with previous rain. Lots of Mycena sp. around.
Μορφέας Posted May 20, 2007 gerbil r they subs? alot of the pictures in this thread dnt have the little ring on the stem of the mushys
benjahman Posted May 20, 2007 (edited) Yes Tepa they are subs, presence of the anular ring on the stem of a mushroom indicates it is not a sub but a non-active lookalike which may well be quite dangerous to consume. Edited May 20, 2007 by benjahman
Μορφέας Posted May 20, 2007 (edited) omg. i was of the impression it was the OTHER way around!! i nearly went for a walk yesterday too lol Edited May 20, 2007 by Tepa
ballzac Posted May 20, 2007 (edited) Yeah, but alkatrope's aren't all subs, the first two pics look like a xerula sp., and the ones in the fifth pic I see all the time but I don't know what they are. EDIT: Tepa, they often have a veil remnant with the purplish spores on it, but never a ring. Edited May 20, 2007 by ballzac
benjahman Posted May 20, 2007 ^^I am aware of this, my answer pertained specifically to the question asked
ballzac Posted May 20, 2007 (edited) Yeah, I figured that. I just thought I'd better point it out in case anyone didn't realise, because I have no idea of the toxicity of those others...although I'm pretty sure xerula aren't poisonous, but I wouldn't want to eat them anyway. Hyphal Posted May 20, 2007 Nice photos! It seems that melbournites have all the luck with subs - one benefit to living in the wettest capital in Australia!

Conan Troutman Posted June 17, 2007 (edited) Just wondering how 'urban' the shrooms picked in the suburbs are, has there been any studys done on mushrooms taking up residual chemicals from their habitat ...mmm.the big smoke jabez- Practice makes perfect Edited June 17, 2007 by Conan Troutman

Hyphal Posted June 17, 2007 Just noticed gerbils pics (post #94), are they P.subaustraliana?? the 'copper tops'? anyone?? bluemeanie ya out there? Pretty sure they are now considered one and the same.
SunChaser Posted June 18, 2007 (edited) Just wondering how 'urban' the shrooms picked in the suburbs are, has there been any studies done on mushrooms taking up residual chemicals from their habitat ...mmm.the big smokejabez- Practice makes perfect No idea, but do you think they would grow if the area had been sprayed? You'd probably want to be careful about where your picking, I guess. But I have to say the suburban ones are so much easier to locate, far more potent (in my opinion) and it’s not uncommon to find up to 100 in one patch. So for that reason I only go out bush for some fun, suburbs when its time to get serious The thing I have noticed about hunting right though the suburbs and the bush (mostly east) is they grow differently depending on there environment firstly when I head out say about 200km east of Melbourne I find subs that barely even stain blue then the closer I get to Melbourne the more noticeable the blue stain gets to the point of where the whole mushroom will easierly stain ink blue. I can even go to a suburban park and know that I'm going to find some little subs that have patches of up to 100 then I can go to another park a few suburbs over and know that I'm going to find some big chucky subs that grow in patches of up to say 20 and these are growing in the same kind of mulch garden beds Pretty sure they are now considered one and the same. There's some info spider posted here about it http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/inde...cybe+tasmaniana At least three new blue staining psilocybes I guess the best place to start looking would be up at the Grampians, yeah??? My suburban patches don't even blue and I am told they are quite weak, whereas those from the forests are blue before I've touched them and I am told they are quite strong.
