WarpedAstro Posted August 29, 2002 Hey Vin, maybe you should check out SAB's products, it might have some pictures to help your starting point.... I have only seen the Wild Opium Lettuce but not the others...apart from your normal lettuce you get from your supermarket
Torsten Posted August 30, 2002 what colour is the seed?? virosa is deep black (the only black one I know). Serriola and most culinary lettuces are beige to brown.

theobromos Posted August 30, 2002 The serriola smells of very strong bitter lettuce. The virosa smells of opium.

VINS Posted August 31, 2002 thank you again theobromos, it's the second forum question you answer me ! but i can't remenber exactly the smell off the plant and for now i havn't got it. i think it was more the smell off fresh poppy-latex than the smell off opium. sascacheuan Posted September 1, 2002 here you can see a good image of lactuca serriola. lactuca one difference between l.V. and l.S. are the tips of leaves. Virosa has a round tips and serriola has sharp leave tip. [This message has been edited by sascacheuan (edited 31 August 2002).]

Torsten Posted September 7, 2002 I thought all lettuces have hollow stems....
VINS Posted September 7, 2002 hye Torsten i didn't know that. maybe all lettuce have some but not all the asteracée.
waterdragon Posted September 7, 2002 another method of distinguishing the virosa from the serriola is to put the seedlings out into the frost. apparently the virosa is not affected by frost.
