help about wild lectuce forms...

hello

this summers i saw lot of wild lettuce but i don't know which is the lactuca virosa, serriola....etc

if someone know this kind of plants, i have some pictures for a good identification.

thank you to sab communauty in advance

Hey Vin,

maybe you should check out SAB's products, it might have some pictures to help your starting point.... I have only seen the Wild Opium Lettuce but not the others...apart from your normal lettuce you get from your supermarket :P

what colour is the seed?? virosa is deep black (the only black one I know). Serriola and most culinary lettuces are beige to brown.

thank you again theobromos, it's the second forum question you answer me !

but i can't remenber exactly the smell off the plant and for now i havn't got it.

i think it was more the smell off fresh poppy-latex than the smell off opium.

here you can see a good image of lactuca serriola.

lactuca

one difference between l.V. and l.S. are the tips of leaves.

Virosa has a round tips and serriola has sharp leave tip.

it is the same lactuca that i can see growing where i live.

the following days i am going to make some opium lettuce from her buds, if i get some positive result i will post here. wink.gif

i read that the hemp of virosa is with air in the center.but i am not sure of this .

another method of distinguishing the virosa from the serriola is to put the seedlings out into the frost. apparently the virosa is not affected by frost.

lactuca virosa realy reeks strong,and

sickening like when dry. once u smelled

one never forgets it sence, yuk.

i am really not sure that it is a good methode for identification to use my noze.

for me all the fresh cutting of asteracée have the same smell.

i made a tea with but no result...

i don't know what thinking about this plant.
