  3. Xperiment

    ID help please?

Hi, I found this little fella in the garden section of my local big green warehouse. The label offers no more insight than "Cactus" so I tried a phone app I have which identifies plants from your photos (pic attached) The app is OK, not great. Anyway the app's 3rd suggestion is L. Williamsi. I'm pretty new to this and I don't *think* it's a Loph.... But, is it?

  5. grafter

    Loph graft for sale

Grafted Lophophora Button Cactus For Sale. Graft is approximately 65mm in diameter as you can see in the attached photos. There are 7 pups growing from the Button, some with their own small pups on them. There are also several others starting to emerge. There is a small blemish because a bird decided to try a little bit, it has completely healed and the Cactus is in excellent health. Plant Rootstock is a Trichocereus pachanoi. Graft is a Lophophora williamsi.var.caespitosa. The Catus has been organically grown outdoors so it is already hardened to outside conditions. Cactus will be sent bear rooted, using Registered Post, to the lucky recipient in a well padded tube to ensure it isn't damaged in transit. Price - $130 ono Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

  10. Hi guys, I am thinking of moving my lophs out of pots and into the open garden one day. They are well-established but don't seem to be overly thriving. They are already kept outdoors, in terra cotta pots in part-sun. I like the fact that I can move them into shelter / out of harsh sun when needed in pots, but the open garden would probably allow them to grow bigger, build deeper roots and access a greater variety of nutrients. Has anyone here had success with this? If so, I would appreciate any tips about how best to go about it. Eg., soil preparation, position, fertilising. At present, I only feed Seasol a few times a year over spring / summer. Thanks for your feedback, Cimi
  11. hey guys i got this grafted loph a while back it had a split in it when i got it i wasnt worried i knew it had a split and pretty much got it for nothing from a generous member on here about a month ago i tried to chop out some of the orange rot it had in the split unfortunately it got a little bit more rot on it again anyway not as much as wat it had but the problem is it goes right down to the core of the loph now so i really cant cut anymore out it looks like it should be ok anyway the real problem is that its splitting more and more i've kept it out of any direct sunlight and limited watering to next to nothing to try and slow down its growth but it just wont stop growing and the split is getting worse and worse and its even now showing some small splits on the opposite side of the large split i'm now wondering if i would be better off to try and degraft it wat do you guys think ??? heres some pics

    WTB lophs

UPDATE: All Sorted Thanks. I purchased a small cacti and succulent nursery today off an old collector/market seller. 3 generations of collecting, 100+ years of records and all the photo albums and newspaper clippings to go with it. I cant wait to upload some pictures to show off some more of this broad collection of cacti once the move to the farm is complete. I hope I can build on and keep this collection going in my family for another 100 years. I went there to buy these... ... and ended up buying the lot. Photos below are from the first of six hot houses! Thanks to those who responded to this ad and who I've bought some nice lophs of this week. Cheers. Im new to this. I have been growing these cactus since I was given one for my 13th birthday. I had no idea what they were until a little over a month ago when a friend pointed out that Jim Morrisson from the Doors had a great time with them and told me what they all are. I have been collecting them from markets for years off people like me who didnt know what they were. I am now in the process of relocating all my lophs to some acreage with a view to mass propagate to help build numbers for other collectors like myself. I only recently dicovered there is a active community of loph lovers like me and since they steered me to this site I have purchased a nice couple of clumps from SAB to add to my collection. I am wanting to see what other fine specimens are out there for sale for me to buy. I am looking to buy: 1st priority - Seed grown only. Any big LW clumps or individual with a 60+mm largest head and good seed producer. I am not expecting or asking for "cheap" and they dont have to be perfect in appearance. Sorted - but always interested in more. 2nd priority - Seed grown only. Medium clumps or individual with 40-60mm largest head. Preapared to buy bulk. Again I dont expect cheap but I do expect realistic. Sorted thanks. Always interested though. 3rd - any LW or LW vars, any size, graft or seed at the right price. Also prepared to buy bulk. I'm also interested in buyin companion plants as I have had them partly shaded under cloth. Sorted thanks. Cash, bank deposit or paypal. Motivated buyer :-D
  13. hey guys looking for a bit of help here this loph has slowly gotten more and more covered in this slightly orangish skin condition as far as i can tell from my experience with orange rot that doesnt seem to be what this is (however im no expert) with a little bit of research im starting to think it may be mites hopefully someone can confirm this for me or if it is some kind of fungal infection it seems to be only on the skin i have noticed the skin has become very weak aswell with som very very light touching and attempting to see if i could rub lightly scratch any of it of the surface when i did this i noticed the skin split straight away this was about 2 days ago within only a few hours the split had dried out and looks fine really you should be able to see in one of the pics anyway wat are your thoughts guys mites or fungal infection ? thanks in advance for any help guys i love having such knowledgable people around to help with these things heres the pics
