    Climate Change For Cacti

Fuck it was hot in Sydney today. 48 celsius in the attic. When I went out to water (after 5pm of course) the garden was fucked. Despite watering every second day - any more and I'd feel guiltier than I already do - the garden is fucked. Shriveled leaves, wilted plants, dead seedlings. The only thing that's loving it is the cactus! I'm thinking I'll plant more seeds this year. Despite having a couple of kids, cacti seem a safer bet these days. Sure, cacti aren't my genes, but does it really matter? Isn't bringing any life into this world of equal value?

    Happy new year

    To waste more time drinking
  3. I seem to be eternally repotting. It's a good thing that I love this task.

Cactus of the month year day thread? Which cactus is really shining for you right now?

My first ever grafts (performed with help - thanks Glaukus):
  5. hmmm that's not what I took from it. I interpreted it that the privileged boy suddenly realised that 'poor' had less to do with money and more to do with how you experience life. He realised that despite all their wealth his father, and society, had missed the point. Sometimes I'm troubled that, because of the lifestyle i've chosen (i work for myself, don't make a packet but am comfortable and [mostly] happy) I've deprived my wife and family of certain experiences such as overseas holidays, new(er) cars, expensive gifts. I correctly counter this though with what I have instilled in its place: healthiness, a frugal nature and love of the smaller things in life.
  6. ^ sure, it's dated, but isn't the message largely anti-capitalist?

^ looks like they're celebrating a glass of scummo's urine
  9. I have these two Pachanoi cuts for sale. $20 the smaller one and $25 for the larger. Happy to trade as well. I haven't been able to find much on 'El Pedro' but I distinctly remember the name when I purchased them about 10 years ago... It's much bluer than PC and has a skinnier, pointier tip. If anyone has info on it I'd be very interested - simply post here. (I think Herbalistics was the original source)/

I dunno. The Daily Telegraph front page today is typical of the "call to arms" for conservatives: "The Joint's Gone Mad" Then it will be full of photos of stoned looking young people, bongs, more joints, huge clouds of smoke and more bad puns. Scummo will fly back in to Australia and save us from ourselves... Me cynical? Yep. Damn I hope I'm wrong though.

Let's not get carried away folks. Remember when ACT had same sex marriage laws revoked? And I trust this government even less than that bunch of sanctimonious assholes. (sorry to rain on the parade. I'll try and keep a positive fire burning somewhere tho)

I've always been puzzled why the Noisy Miner is spelt this way but, having had to listen to one of their young for at least a week I suspect they should actually have been called Noisy Minors
  19. Melbourne! This Saturday. Failing that, I think you'll have to wait until its released through the usual channels. The producers said they hoped to (eventually) get it onto Netflix (and a few other outlets) in due course.

    Psychotria V. problems

My viridis seems to be absolutely thriving in little to no sun. (It's actually burst through the pot drain holes and is now well and truly growing in the ground - creating a bit of a dilemma...) Anyway, I think you'll find indirect sunlight is all they really need in NSW's dry temperate climate.
