Got a reference for that? my understanding is they rarely germinate in agar - in fact my understand was that they never germinate on simple agar mediums - but I must admit I've never tried. if they do why don't sporebanks / strain libraries sell them?
-
Haha - again it has been described and lechotyped to the herbarium in Australia. But so was langei and further investigation suggested that had to be wrongly identified. I'll wait and see what the second id comes back as.
-
Excellent please keep me posted as I rarely get on shroomery
-
Clone them mate.

If your looking in those areas keep an eye out for grey knights - Tricholoma terreum - which I think is superior in flavour to both the milk cap and slippery jack group.
-
Thanks mate. Yes that sounds like my mushroom. Have it on agar and one of two id's saying it was Agaricus perobscurus
-
Cook them in butter and fry them mate. Sensational!!

Seems pretty doubtful to me but worth trying. I got confused about how the basidiospores germinated on agar. Surely that alone would be the million dollar thing.

They were much better.

Scratch that - found heaps on sat and fried them alone in butter. Very nice. Chewy like shiitake but flavours of sweet sesame.

I remember thinking that Inski did some pretty good microscopic work. that is a pity. the Watling description of Ps.tasmaniana was also reported to look somewhat like that and it was never collected in either of the studies attempting to classify it as subaeruginosa - not that I am doubting the id.
-
And I'm not kidding. No one could work out what it was and a print and gill fragment was examined by workman and teonan.
-
How were those id'd myco? Because I just realized that mystery dung lover collected in Victoria which I believe this very mushroom has been not only photographed and erroneously misidentified but it was cultivated at some stage due to a print mix up from Rev.

I see Macrolepiota procera/clelandii in the forest near my house. I can try and clone. I will have Marasmius oreades and Agaricus perobscurens but both need isolation first I also have a print of Agaricus austrovinecus or what ever its called.

I see them occasionally but only in certain spots. I had ignored them until a chef told me they were sort after.
