Turbinicarpus pseudomacrochele?
terracottacactus replied to terracottacactus's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Cheers upside, Yeah the second one isn't looking happy at all. I felt so bad for it that I had to get it though. It's nice when you can nurse them back to health and admire them looking healthy again. I was windging to the garden center guy at Bunnings about how shit it looked so he sold it to me for a buck, and the other for 3 bucks. -
permaculture ukulele/Formidable Vegetable Sound System
terracottacactus posted a topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
Hi all, If you're interested in permaculture and/or the ukulele check out this brilliant local band: http://permaculturesongs.com/ I saw them by accident at a local night market, loved every song they sang ("we're running out of oil" is the song that sold it for me) bought the album and I've been hammering it ever since. Not my usual taste in music by any means, but I love the vibe and the message and am keen on the uke too. It's become my go to gardening music- 2 replies

(SOLD)FOR SALE - Garden Of Eden by Snu Voogelbreinder(SOLD)
terracottacactus replied to Slybacon's topic in Chill Space
As much as I would love this, I just don't have the money. I'm sure someone out there will provide it with a loving home. Would pay for a PDF scan of the whole thing if you have a month or two to spare...- 10 replies

Trichocereus scopulicola?
terracottacactus replied to dawnbeaver's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Def a scop; my first cactus (Bunnings lol). Mine's impossible to kill, loves full sun and miracle grow fertilizer. Mine's put on about 4cm in the last couple of months. -
No luck from me. It was just a long segment from a clone A, same as mine. I'm pretty sure that there is a guy in Sydney with a frickin huge one though.

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tea bush to start my own little tea plantation. I've been scouring the markets and trying to get nurseries to order me one but so far no luck, I thought maybe someone here could help me out? I have a little to trade, but will happily pay for the privilege. Have a great day

Any idea what these two yellow cacti are?
terracottacactus posted a question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Hi all, I have a couple of weird yellow cacti in my collection and I was wondering if anyone could help ID them/explain why they are this colour? Cheers in advance, TC I got this guy yellow, and he hasn't change colour at all in 6 months. The other one is a limey green, again I'd love an ID for my own record. -
Edit: Grafting one to something. If it turns out that I can get a pup from the clone A (or B, you know the one I'm on about) maybe I could graft it and BAP it (although I've only read about it, never used it) and sent out a bunch to people to spread it on?

You know, I have a friend who may in fact have one. He says he has one of each clone, the cutting I got from him is the short version. I'll see him on Sunday afternoon hopefully, if I do I'll take a pic or 2 for you. Never thought of grafting with one, that seems like an ingenious idea. TC

Don't get into collecting/growing cacti. On a serious note, whenever you buy food and get a voucher to save on fuel I always ask them to reprint the docket. Then I can you the same discount twice (this guaranteed works by the way, between my misses and myself we have a whole wad of those vouchers)
-
DYFLIW: You decide to repot all your cacti because it's a beautiful day and you find that all your cuttings have struck roots and taken off! Even the two that were getting skinny and weird looking turned out to just be growing huge root systems. (In other words, DYLIW when all your love and attention feels rewarded).

What are these seeds/do you want some?
terracottacactus replied to terracottacactus's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
I guess I'll let you now when they pop up? daisies seem pretty likely to me. They came in sweet little glass bottles which was what I wanted, the seeds are a nice bonus. Looks like my front yard may have a whole bunch of daises and grass next year! -
I was just working at a weeding over the weekend and they were giving out little bottles of seeds to the guests as a thank you. No one took the seeds home so I did, but I have no idea what they are (neither did the bride/groom. Here's a pic, if anyone recognizes them I'd be interested. The awesome tag says "an everlasting perennial variety" sow in full sun, well drained fertile soil. I've planted a bunch and have a heap here if anyone wants to grow some random seed let me know. I take no responsibility if the seeds produce sucky/ugly plants

Looking for Camellia sinensis (Tea bush)
terracottacactus replied to terracottacactus's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
Cheers BT, Give me a shout if you see something. Maybe I'm just un lucky? I've hit up the Midland, Clairemont, Bibra lake (and the other small one near it) with no luck. I'm heading back this arvo to pick up a seedling propagator, I'll ask if they'll order me one Alice. I took your advice and went to the Canningvale markets, but no luck. I did get a coffea arabica there myself though, as well as a shit load of cacti.- 5 replies

Once I went on to SAB look up some grafting techniques for some new seedlings but instead read a terrifying story about the dangers of joint bicycle and dog ownership.
-
DCLIW: you go out to check on the bunch of seeds you sowed and they're starting to grow? Edit: as an interesting side note, these are the fist cacti seeds I've ever planted, and they all germed the morning after the full moon. I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or not, but I've read some interesting stuff on here and in the secret life of plants about the lunar cycles. I'm taking it as a good sign anyway.

Maybe when we find a final cure for them we can change the title to slug wars: the gardener strikes back.
