  1. how'd ya get them dolph's to pose like that?
  2. ok the raCE is on...3 equal size grafts....1 on dragon, 1 on pere, 1 on trich interesting to see what will grow the fastest! reckon Incog should throw some special seed to the winner...(needs a winning time/date)...anyone else in the race?
  3. so what's the best time to cut? spring...summer ...autumn...? during spring & summer there's a lot of growth & fatting to be had.......seems a shame to cut then unless you need too. Autumn cuts...should give a good start for new pups in the coming spring...? I'm not keen on the pupping above ground look (mid stem).................I'd be inclined to cut for a good long clean stem/tip...& then cut up the base/lower stem into 150mm sections for repotting....so pups form just above the root..............other wise you get the permanent cut scar. I find cutting on the areoles, causes them to pup..........I do it with grafting also....cut the seedling/scion through the areoles, & they throw out multiable new pups @ the graft union.
  4. how do they get the waterfall effect? ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE0fqwR4doA
  5. tall log grafting an opuntia & others on trich trich hybrids growing well
  6. go for 3 unique cuts of cereus,,,,unless you wanta be collecting/storing pollen...........
  7. yeah worth having a couple of other cereus to pollinate.....throw in c validus or c jamacian etc...or just some muttly cereus peru....then most of the flowers will have fruit....
  8. Dragon grafting arrays.. Poor pic's...its the bright over exposed round 1, lower middle...its about marble size at the mom........... so on the right middle below the 2 largest round 1's...1 of 2 took...
  9. Thought I'd post some of the 300 gifted (many thanks) "cereus monstrose x" seeds to seedlings........most of them grew ~60% show monstrose form...but I suspect the monstrose # will be lots less at maturity.............. red pot some CMx grafts on dragon grafting array.... a CMx graft on San p log & while posting in a fruit section....I tried eating this? today ...sweet, flavoursome, succulent juicy even...size of a large apricot....skin is smoooth,,,, I'm going to plant a huge bed of these...idea orchard food....thrives on drought & neglect..likes frost....my perfect fruiting companion....ideal permatcultural plant...if Only I knew what this day red flowering ...almost scentless plant was....(Echinopsis huascha?)....inter-specifically hybridised the flw with other's as they flowered ..from EG's red frich project to whatever...should get some interesting off-spring...
  10. top of the North West...of the south...............can't miss it, end of the road...lots of nice walking around there........ yeah the 30 c days are killers''''too bloody hot.... here's some more hot sunset through red orach forest....
  11. Sea Shepherd in epic chase of Antarctic 'poaching' ship "Certainly we are prepared to chase these poachers to the ends of the Earth and back if we have to." Read more at: http://phys.org/news/2015-01-sea-shepherd-epic-antarctic-poaching.html#jCp
  12. ok I may have posted this earlier...but its my favourite beach.......& its the only sunset I have taken on file...
  13. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_bear Thylarcactos plummetus "vicious, carnivorous marsupials related to koalas .......that inhabit treetops and attack their prey by dropping onto their heads from above" didn't know they laid eggs.
  14. actually on 2nd thought I'd agree...reptile...snakes maybe...
  15. unless you want to eat them...then wait 3 days or so after they crack so the sugar builds up...protect from birds & bats
  16. yeah I collect a lot of different selenicereus sp...what ever I can get my hands on...still early days ...I reckon it will be a few years before I can enjoy their fruit, which as you say taste good...so I've read.....
  17. pic pending 1 graft took already dlb its size.........
  18. I'm in....12 months on ...& nadda.....maybe its time to un-pin this or start a new comp.
  19. Just a Fruit eating, seed collecting note. Its my 2nd season of harvesting x seed from my san p... Trichocereus pachanoi ....... Last season I harvested as soon as they cracked open, I enjoy eating cereus fruit which are sweet & succulent ...the san p...was bland & tasteless...so I thought>> This season it took several days to get around to harvesting them...they had opened up totally like a flower...& the taste was as sweet & succulent as the cereus............ So I guess the sugars don't build up until they are well open...>3 -4 days from the initial crack/break... makes sense for attracting birds & bats...so maybe the seed is best taken as late as possible to ensure full maturity....Although if they are outside some bird protection would be needed.
  20. it could be maf.......I have been waiting for some seeds from Holland ...I know they were sent & normally its a 7 day trip...so my guess is they are on maf's table...waiting for them to staff up after the holidays...
  21. I found it really interesting............brain scans ..mri's...those images correlate ...I think I recall him pointing out that the mushroom effect didn't endure....temporary when compared to mindfulness med........... Not sure what bloomy meant by" It seems people's definition of real 'meditation' is sitting in lotus and trying not to think"...........insight med is not about "not thinking".
  22. just curious, but why do you need the gh in the hot med?
  23. some nice hybrid porn here http://www.mattslandscape.com/trichocereus/ my dragon grafting array with2 of EG's echinopsis glauca ? (from memory) its the 2 largest round 1's...6 weeks grafted?
  24. thanks guys........I picked up a doz 1m stems last season & they flowered (long flowering season)...so I x & self pollinated (clones) them (using eg's cement method)...the seedlings are slow, my grafts are much smaller than yours...not round yet...they look cool round..They can handle down to -6c?...& look good......... They inter-specific hybridise readily...so I've been xing them with everything this season. Cleistocactus strausii x Echinopsis grandiflora cross Cleistopsis graeseris- 'Cleistopsis'http://www.mattsland...ame=Cleistopsis
