Gday all. I watched a documentary on sbs recently that talked about aboriginals traditionally using kava root for spiritual/medicinal uses. I dont really know much about this stuff but i always thought it was a mauri thing. apparently it exists or has existed in aus for a long time. i kinda presumed it was native to nz. does anyone know what tribes (or at least what regions) this practice was taking place? i believe the aboriginal culture is threatened and knowledge about it should be shared. aboriginals use all sorts of bush medicine. i am friends with an elder and we went camping/gold prospecting a while back. one thing i remember is he talked about a plant that the huntsmen would chew the leaves from to give them energy. my thoughts is that this plant is a part of the sida family. sorry if my post is all over the place. talk soon

Advice needed for family member QLD
goodude replied to theuserformallyknownasd00d's topic in Legal Matters
pretty certain legal aid wont help with criminal charges only civil matters. definately get a private lawyer. tell him to check into atods volintarily. maybe even a psychologist. by doing this the judge will see he wants to help himself. good on you for sticking by him. i hope he wasnt selling meth. im not sure what u mean by u cant contact him but surely if hes in custody by contacting the police maybe u could arrange a meeting with him. i hope its his first offence. once again, good on u for supporting him. he'll need it. -
def dont order any ephedra if ur in qld. surely (not certainly) any plant or plant matter than contains a controlled substance, will also be controlled in qld.

dont order it man its importing an illegal substance. at least i think its illegal. probly a federal offence too. my advice, just get the seeds (they may not be illegal) and figure it out from there.

yea katuhi is arabican. to make ur tree fruit try stressing it by not watering for a month or so just before the wet season. it should push it into flower when stressed like this. your welcome

im starting to think this is not the plant the elder was referring too. his english was good and im pretty sure he poined out pituli on a differant occasion. and the word around here is that pituli is poisonous. i found this kinda interesting http://prehistoricdrugs.wordpress.com/2011/09/03/the-aboriginal-drug-pituri-2/

when a lead acid battery charges it releases hydrogen. KEEP IT AWAY FROM FIRE!!!

really, thx ph. pituri ay? wild tobacco? not arguing but are u sure? looks like the only active poison in there is nicotine and that is not a stimulant. perhaps the pituri plant has other alkaloids these tribes were seeking out? so no kava plant or similar is native to aus ay?and im pretty certain that theres a bunch of sidas that are native. cheers

ferment the beans in water. the sugar in outer skin will soak into bean and make skin easy to remove. dry the beans to a moisture level of 11 or 12 percent. do this slowly or inside of bean will have more moisture than outside of bean. remove husk from bean. this is ur final green bean u now need to roast. use hot air to roast. a popcorn machine should suffice. the beans will expand when u roast and the outer skin will stretch so the final product should be smooth and not have a wrinkly testicle like skin the beans will do 2 cracks. on the second crack they relrase oil so this is a dark roast. if u stop it before the second crack its a med roast. good luck.

SNAKES- (scare the shit outta me). the worst snake is a startled/scared snake. i walk heavy so the snake can hear me coming well before im standing next to it. If you get bitten, tightly wrap something around the limb to slow the posion spreading to organs. limit physical movement and relax, the faster ur heart beats the faster the poison spreads. DO NOT attempt to clean the wound the docs need to swab test it to id what antivenom to give u. im not a doc tho.

FLAT VEHICLE BATTERY. This only (apparently) works on maintainable (has caps so u can add water) lead acid batteries. bear in mind sulphuric acid is corrosive and will burn u and anything else it touches but not plastic. it will itch ur skin before ur arm dissolves tip the acid (it will be more like h2o when the batts flat) into ur billy. boil the billy (becareful not to get stoned and accidently make a cuppa) safety first remember. tip the hot acid into ur battery. the heat should act as a catalyst n kick start the chemical reaction between the plates n acid n put some charge into ur battery. keep ur battery warm for as long as possible before u start ur car, u might only get one shot at starting from this procedure. best wishes and happy camping

gday every one thx for ur time im just after some reassurance... one has a cacti graft thats a few days old but it doesnt look like it has taken. obviously no growth yet but im concerned about the join. the stock was cut abit rough and the scion is not sitting flush. it has stuck and im hoping that this is an indicator that the vascular rings have connected and im just fretting. what i want to know is, does the fact that it has stuck mean all will be well? also, if it hasnt taken, what sort of time period will i have before i start seeing negative changes in the scion if the graft was not successful? thank you and best wishes to u all. gd

thx niggles. though its meant to read 'good dude' not goo dude!

gday barret welcome to sab. the cactus u refer too is the trichocereus pachanoi. this one may or may not be a pachanoi but is almost certainly a member of the trichocereus family imo. im under the impression that all of this family are now illegal in all of oz due to their poisionous nature.
-
hey squish n niggles. awesome codenames u got. can u make one for me? anyway, vege and cacti. interestin thought. well ive never done it but the following is my thoughts. im pretty sure nearly all cactus have fairly shallow roots, so maybe plant something with deep roots. most cacti love good drainage, airation, not too much organic matter etc so if ur cacti have this type soil, plant something that also likes this soil. but theres a million things to consider. maybe i reckon just dont look at the cacti, look at the soil light water n plant accordingly. but ive got a good feeling about chilli with cacti. dont know why. hope this helped. craig
