of course there is a fluent passage in the plant, it depends on the gusto to take only the best or the middle-quality too. From older leaves it is possible to make tea (only Cathin and weaker), with lemon and honey very tasteful.

Growing Psychotria viridis Plant advice needed?????
mindperformer replied to sc001's topic in Ethnobotany
thanks, the humidity is most important, but although it likes a humid environment, waterlogging kills it. Only pour water when its getting dry at the surface and give it a substrate with good drainage. The PH is also important: If using tap water for long time, the substrate gets alkaline, so ideal is rain water in clean areas or distilled water with some organic fertilizer sometimes. -
Growing Psychotria viridis Plant advice needed?????
mindperformer replied to sc001's topic in Ethnobotany
I have my Chacruna in a small greenhouse with some wet clay-granulate on the ground. under the greenhouse is a heating mat, to make a high humidity by the wet clay-granulate in it. as light source i have an energy saving 120W- growconsole, but the greenhouse for the chacruna is shaded with many layers flyscreen many chacrunas sold as plants are Psychotria alba instead, which often flowers with very small white flowers, has smaller leaves than P. viridis and the leaves are often wrinkled. -
Catha edulis - History, Cultivation and Use
mindperformer replied to whitewind's topic in Ethnobotany
the story of the origin of khat is that goats in ethiopia liked (and like) to chew the young khat-leaves and jumped around agitated after that. The herders saw that and tasted the leaves, they felt the stimulation and chewed more... Quite the same story of origin has coffee which is believed to be discovered by goats too. -
in the older leaves there is only cathin (like ephedrine in its actions). the euphoric entactogenic stimulant cathinone is only in fresh two youngest leaves. they are plucked like tea to get chewed as fresh as possible. there is an enzymatic process in the plant which converts the cathinone to cathin after time, this could be only stopped by quickly grinding the fresh two youngest leaves of each twig and extract it with 98%- alcohol i find the taste of the leaves delicate :-)

i think this could induce a swell of rootbark, but i dont think it would increases the alkaloids. my small plants soak very much water too, but i cant transplant them outside because of our strong winters

My Mesembs: ...Sceletium joubertii ...Delosperma cooperi ...Delosperma bosseranum ...Pleiospilus bolusii ...Sceletium tortuosum [/img] ...Aptenia cordifolia # longifolia Of course the Delospermas in the pots look tiny compared to yours ;-) Sceletium joubertii contains active seco-mesembrane alkaloids like Joubertiamine, and is a possibe substitute for Kanna. Delosperma cooperi was found to contain DMT. Delosperma bosseranum contains Mesembrine, Pleiospilus bolusii also contains Mesembrine and related alkaloids Sceletium tortuosum was additionally found to act on cannabinoid-receptors Aptenia cordifolia # longifolia can be eaten as salad

wow, your Delospermas look awesome! I like these plants

@bogfrog: As far as I know the actions only refer to Hoodia gordonii You can also ask Haage, if they can send small plants to oz: http://www.kakteen-haage.de Cultivated (not wild) pure Hoodia-powder you can get there: http://www.konakavafarm.com/hoodia.html

Hoodia acts not only for weight loss but also as an aphrodisiac: http://hoodiagordoniiguide.com/how-does-hoodia-work-for-weight-loss.htm http://fastandslim.blogspot.co.at/2008/07/does-hoodia-have-aphrodisiac.html Hoodia gordonii and Sceletium tortuosum, both from South Africa: It is believed that Hoodia works by acting as an agonist on the melanocortin-4- receptor, which suppresses fever, hunger and feeling of satiety and development of libido. A new synthetic melanocortin-4- agonist is getting famous as the allegedly first real aphrodisiac: Bremelanotide (PT-141) It doesn't act like viagra and similar medications, but through stimulation of sexual desire in the brain. The active compound in Hoodia is P57, an oxypregnane steroidal glycoside and other trirhabinosides. Much attention has been focused in the patent literature on melanocortin agonists and their use in treating body weight and sexual disorders [Andersson et al. Exp. Opin. Ther. Patents 2001, 11, 1583 1592]. The first reported non-peptidicmelanocortin agonist is shown below. It was isolated from a plant extract from the genus Trichocaulon or Hoodia [WO 98/46243, Quandrant Holdings].

Polygodial http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Polygodial.svg ...is found in Mountain Pepper (Tasmannia lanceolata), Horopito (Pseudowintera colorata), Paracress (Spilanthes acmella) and other Spilanthes sp., Canelo (Drimys winteri) and a few other plants. It has strong antifungal, insecticide and antimicrobial activities and I often use Horopito-tincture as plant-fungicide. I also used a Spilanthes acmella- tincture against toothache and Mountain Pepper (leaves and seeds) and Horopito as spice. Additional is has analgesic, vasorelaxant and anti-inflammatory effects and according to this study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10604944 it was mainly preventing pain produced by formalin and capsaicin. The mechanism seems likely to involve an interaction with the opioid system, mainly kappa and delta subtypes, alpha1-adrenoceptors and the serotonergic system. Mountain pepper (Tasmannia lanceolata)- Winteraceae: and the seeds: Horopito (Pseudowintera colorata)- Winteraceae: http://www.lovelyhealth.com/Pages/horopito.html this I got in New Zealand: Paracress (Spilanthes acmella) and other Spilanthes sp.: http://www.metafro.be/prelude/view_plant?pi=11890&cat=V Spilanthes oleracea-herb: Canelo (Drimys winteri)- Winteraceae: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Drimys_winteri.jpg has many entheogenic uses: http://rainforest-database.com/plants/cascadeanta.htm Winteraceae are characteristic of the ancient Antarctic flora and very primordial. Pseudowintera colorata is a very slow growing plant that lacks the specialist water conducting tubes found in nearly all other flowering plants.

mindperformer replied to mindperformer's question in Plant Identification (non-cactus)
Thanks for the insightful answers, I didn't know that Jurema- seedlings show seismonasty in their your stage. I hope it will make the thorns and white flowers too. -
you could try mixing with Iberis amara and ginger against nausea
-
oh I think Kratom is illegal in Australia..... did you try mulungu?
-
not especially, I saved some studies about the anti-diabetic actions because my father needed some herbs working this way. it balances also the cholesterin-levels
-
of course you can use or misuse every plant/ substance

going out and by the way drinking together is also a kind of ritual, thats not the problem, but what we can see more and more are the senseless drinking competitons and bingeing alone. alcohol has socializing action but at higher doses deadening effects and makes people more dull than Ganja, Kava, Coca, Poppies, Kratom, Virola and Iboga in other cultures.
