  1. Who are you talking to? Me or teo? No trolling here just pointing out the obvious!! I really don't give a shit whether you listen or not. People have lived off the land here for thousands of years without anything but skills, could you do this? If not you are taking risks. Anyone here that has tried to tell you the FACTS get a stupid reply from you. I am betting you can't make this work - my opinion of course.
  2. Dry food means you need more water, 3ltr's water wont last more than a day. I figure you won't plan on walking more than a few kilometers from water or roads. This would mean you will be moved along by council, police, rangers pretty regularly. No offence but you don't seem to understand there is a HUGE difference to bush survival & camping, you seem to be getting organized for a camping trip not living in the wilderness. If you want to make a camp were you can stay long term you need to head deep into the wilderness. Do you know how to get water were there is no creek/river/rain? Were are you going to shit, how are you going to wipe your ass? Man your best bet would be to live in your tent at a camp ground (clean water, toilets, amenities etc), do this for a month or two & see if you still want to "live in the bush".
  3. Hi all, I have a couple of seedlings here that I am trying to ID, I have waited for them to start to show some adult traits to make it a bit easier but they are still young & have never flowered. I realize I may have to wait for flowers to be 100% certain but any suggestions would be appreciated. Number 1, I have about 20 of these & they came out of a pack of mixed Turbinicarpus seed. I am thinking it may be T.knuthianus but would like to hear your thoughts. Number 2, this one has had me smiling & scratching my head at the same time as it came from a seed shop in Italy which sell some very cool & rare cactus. It came out of a pack of Ariocarpus seed & is obviously not an Ario (all the other seeds that germinated were Arios). It is starting to look like a Eriosyce possible E.esmeraldana but I really have know clue. Thanks for looking. Cheers Jox

    Show off your freaks

Hey hostilis, very nice little plant. I was under the impression that L.diffusa X L.fricii was not possible, I have read reports were it has been tried both ways without any success. I have never tried this cross my self. Cheers Jox

    Joxs Garden

Hey guys, Both of the Aztekium's are recent additions to my collection, I've had them for about 4 months. I was gifted them from a very nice person, they were not sure of there age. They are hard-grown and never been grafted, I would imagine they would be a least 6 years probably more. Here are a couple of photos to show there size. Here are a couple more slow growers from my green house, people that think lopho's are slow should try these . Cintia knizei sown 19/8/12 Escorbaria vivipara sown 26/1/13 Cheers Jox

    Joxs Garden

Hi all, well after working around the garden for the last month, things are starting to come together. I still have some re-potting & organizing to do but I would like to start showing you all my garden. A special thanks must go out to 2Deep for giving me some help . I hope you like Exposed to the elements Euphorbias Cactus (cereus, echinocactus, myrtillocactus, oreocereus, parodia, pilosocereus, polaskia, stenocereus, trichocereus & others) Echinopsis (unknown random spp, crosses) Greenhouse (astrophytum, blossfeldia, haworthia, lophopora, mammillaria, pachypodium, selenicereus, stapelia, trichos, seedlings & others) Mammillaria's Pachypodium's Lophophora's (grafted, hardgrown) Seedlings (astros, lophos, melos, turbs) If you have any questions or what to see a more detailed photo of a plant please ask, these photos are just from a distance to give you an idea of my garden & don't show everything clearly. I also have a grow room with hundreds of seedlings & grafts but I only take photos on my phone & they come out funny because of the light in there, you will have to imagine it for now until I can borrow a camera . Thanks for looking, I will add more photos in the future. Cheers Jox

  11. It looks like it would be in the Alluadia or fouquieria family's but I have never seen ether of these species with leaves like that. Do you know what it is Zelly? Cheers Jox
  12. Hi bot6, My seedlings start there life under a 90watt MH light in a humidity chamber, after the seeds have germinated & there roots take hold (about 3 to 6 weeks) I top dress the containers with gravel/coarse sand & take the lid of the chamber, I continue to leave them under the light for another 4-6 weeks (with lid off) & water as required. After this stage they get moved into a green house with 50/50 clothe. I find leaving them under the light with lid off for that extra time really helps reduce the stress of the green house. I found that if I moved seedling strait from a humidity chamber under lights to an out of the humidity chamber greenhouse set up it has stressed my seedling causing them to redden up & stall growth. Good luck with your seedlings. Cheers Jox
  13. LOL, so my theory about vegetarians being the same as people with split personality disorder is true .
  14. I don't understand what you mean by this. Can you recommend sites, book etc that are being used by the majority to name there plants. The thing I find most frustrating about naming cacti is that it still seems to be undergoing a lot of change & no one seems to agree. As a collector & not an expert I would just like it if there was a Cactus King who new all the facts & everyone agreed that way I look at his book & know for sure whats going on. Cheers Jox
  15. I would like to start this thread as this topic is viewed differently by many people & I would like to hear peoples opinions about it. Through my experiences, I am someone who believes that L.w var caespitosa is different from other williamsii, I have come to this conclusion by watching my seedlings grow & other more mature plants, I am talking about seed grow plants not cuttings or grafts. I do think there are factors that can make your normal williamsii look caespitosa or "clump" such as grafting or growing conditions & of coarse damage to the plant, also you might be lucky & get 1 out of 1000 of your normal seedlings that has some weird genetics (I have not seen this in my seedlings). The main reason I believe this is through growing out seed & my L.w var caespitosa are the only seeds out 100's of other Lophophora that have pupped at a 6 weeks old & 5mm big , ALL of more other Lopho's are reaching a year & a half & none of them are showing any signs of pupping. Surely this can not be coincidence, all the caespitosa seedlings pupping & hundreds of non-caespitosa over a year old not pupping. Here are some photos of my caespitosa seedlings My caespitosa seedlings Showing the size Seedling #1 Seedling #2 Seedling #3 Seedling #4 This one has two pups Seedling #5 This one throw a pup straight out the top, there was no damage Like I said, this can not be coincidence but I sure other will not agree. I look forward to hearing other peoples opinions on this. Cheers jox

    New here

When you go to reply in the "Reply to this topic" you will see an option in the bottom right hand corner saying "More Reply Options" click on this and it will take you to a page were you can type your reply, under that is a section it says add files. Add the files (photos) you want there. I hope that helps, I am pretty crap when it comes to computer though. Cheers Jox
  17. The key was done in 2007, as it says "this key is based on". If you read through it you would see most of the information is current and is base on newer findings. Anyway I am just trying to put a tag on this plant, I agree that horripilus fits best. I will add more photos when it as put on some more growth. Thanks again for your help prier. Cheers Jox
  18. Just an update, here is a photo showing one of the plants from the first post. This photo was taken this morning, the seeds were sown on the 3/11/12 making it 1 year and nearly 4 months old. Cheers Jox

    Multiple ID's Please :)

Nice looking plants magical9, I saw the photos of the nursery you got them from, man that is an awesome place, I wish I could go and visit a place like that. Sh*t you guys are good at identifying cacti!! As soon as I saw the second pic I thought it was Polaskia chichipe for sure. If you get time could you please point out how you worked out it was a Pachycereus, Thanks. Cheers Jox
  21. Hey prier, thanks for your reply. I found the Turb key by typing in "key for the Turbinicarpus species" it is the first one that comes up by demon.co.uk, sorry I have know idea how to add links. If you look at this page & look click on T. horripilus there is a list of related Turbs at the bottom of the page, here is the key for t.horripilus wrobelianus. After looking at the flower what are your thoughts? Cheers Jox
  22. That sound like a very good night! Spewen it is to far from home . Is it going to be shown in other states? Also is the dvd going to be on sale for people that can't get to the screening? I would love to buy a copy of this. Cheers Jox
  23. Thanks for the update mate , Everything is looking nice & healthy. I have to agree with bot6, that Psycho0 x spach looks awesome. Now when you get some time can you update the Astro thread . Cheers Jox
  24. Cool looking plant, I think it is Monadenium ellenbeckii. Cheers Jox
  25. Well the Turb in question flowered for me today. @prier, it looks like T. horripilus fits (other than radials) so thank you for your suggestion . There is one question that I had about this, when I look at a key for Turbinicarpus it says that T.horripilus has 8 to 10 radial spines, my plants have a lot more than that. My question is, would it have more radials because it is a young plant or does it fall under the name T.horripilus ssp. wrobelianus which has more radials? Look forward to hearing your thoughts. Here are some photos. Cheers Jox EDIT; that is a 5 cent piece in the photo for size reference, just forgot to place it facing up .
