RyanVolle Posted November 21, 2011 It's been like this for a few months since I bought it. Is this normal for it not to open up or is it just its soil? Bought it on Aug.
Heffa Posted November 21, 2011 Cant see it very well but isn't it suppossed to stay that way? It looks like one of the succulents I have, what were you expecting? Unless i am mistaken?
Jonstn Posted November 21, 2011 Im not sure of they're the same succulent but it looks a lot like something I got don't know why it's closed though
Foo Posted November 22, 2011 Looks the same to me. My first guess would be lack of water.
Jonstn Posted November 22, 2011 Yeah that would make sense, mine stays quite damp as its in a full glazed pot, but it seems to love the dampness. I took it from a bunch that was out the back in full sun, those ones were all open and doing fine also.
cactuscarl Posted November 22, 2011 There is a few haworthia that do stay closed like that but the ones I've seen look different to that Id agree it's probably a lack of water. They seem to like a bit of water They sure are a cool plant I've got a few different types id love to collect them all
lhb2444 Posted November 22, 2011 Is the second one you've posted flowering? if so what do the flowers look like and what are their flowering requirments, I've got one thats massive and old but never flowered for me
watertrade Posted November 22, 2011 As far as I can tell it looks healthy, there are heaps of Haworthia species so maybe this one just grows like that. I have a few of them in my bathroom flowering at the moment as the following fine photography shows.. Haworthia Haworthia
zelly Posted November 22, 2011 Volle- Your plant is perfectly normal- I have a fully grown one of those, its so tall its falling over, and yeah the tip remains 'closed'. Its a completely different plant than the one Jonstn posted, I think I have some of that variety also.
Jonstn Posted November 22, 2011 Is the second one you've posted flowering? if so what do the flowers look like and what are their flowering requirments, I've got one thats massive and old but never flowered for me Flowers look like the one watertrade posted, I'll take a pic in the morning it looks pretty nifty I'll get a pic of the original one too she's been flowering also. cactuscarl Posted November 22, 2011 Mine literally never stop flowering (not the most impressive flower) as soon as one starts to fail it shoots a new one i give them lots of water and slow release fert in semi shade. The ones at work flower a lot with no fert or water in hot sun so they should flower rather easy
cactuscarl Posted November 22, 2011 If anyone is interested in some trades I'm going to put a thread in the trade section when i get a new memory card and take some pics so keep an eye out for that
Jonstn Posted November 23, 2011 The flowers not too impressive, I like the epic stem that comes out though
zelly Posted November 23, 2011 Occasionally the stem will branch with new growth and another bunch of flowers, and sometimes a baby plantlet will form on the flower stem
RyanVolle Posted November 23, 2011 Yes, thanks I'll try to water it as much as I should.
