  1. Hey all! I've gotten involved with a youth development program in my area. The program is centred around bring young people outside to collaborate on a community garden. Its going great and really serving its purpose. With drought, increasing temperatures and water restrictions (not to mention habitat loss etc) i think its far more beneficial to be planting natives. If anyone has ANY native seeds lying around i'd love to take them off your hands and could shout a little $$$ your way. Thanks so much everyone, your efforts would definitely be going to a good cause. Take it easy

    Stubborn\ Acacias

Hey, this is my first post so please excuse me if its a mess I planted acacia seeds about a month ago, 8 obtusifolia and 4 floribunda, 2 of each of these popped up in days, not problem. Since then in the last 3 weeks i have planted an additional 15 or so floribunda. So far I've only had 2 obtusifolia germinate and are doing great. And 2 floribunda which also popped up fast after planting. The remainder seem to be laying dormant. Is it common to have this much gap between germinating acacias? Could it be the difference between planting at the beginning of summer and towards the end?
  3. Budding ethnobotonist here. Besides a few Cacti and some Acacia Accuminatas, I don't have much. Will obviously include Caapi eventually. Assuming one lives in a non-tropical part of Australia, What should the ideal ethno -botanic garden include? With or without a greenhouse? Keen to hear the collective wisdom!
  4. There has been a bit of a response to an idea I voiced over in this thread so here is the discussion thread for that idea. I did a quick bit of research, creating an association isn't all that difficult but there are a few annoying rules, and some things we might find a bit tricky to achieve. The general idea is that you create a company which then becomes a legal entity - the company can get sued or sue, but not the individual members. This in itself probably won't prevent anyone, legally, from being affected by the new federal laws, but it does provide a legal entity with some authority which individuals won't have - which might be useful for lobbying purposes. Here is the website A quick glance, and I think I would have problems with having an office which was open to the public, there are some fees which might need to be met and I am skint (as are many people), and we need a constitution! Which will be time consuming, but fun. It has to run along the lines of plants must be freely available to all, and the association is committed to engaging with people and plants for conservation and information gathering (science). We will probably need a website too, and three founding members on the committee - so far we have two confirmed, and a few who have shown serious interest, I will get back to everyone later when I have a few moments. Any ideas, chuck them in here please, I would also like to hear from anyone who has done this before or who is a member of an existing plant society.
  5. Hey guys and gals, Am stoked to present my website which tries to show something different within the psychedelic art scene. I try to steer away from repetitive patterns and move straight into novelty. I am totally still learning and starting out, but I am busting my balls in trying to develop new visual tastes that reflect specific moments of visual psychedelia. I am interested in the theory that accompanies pieces, so its not just splashy colour. Each piece is a different code that is unique to itself. It is self-reflexive and talking to itself in the work. This starts a visual loop cycle. There is no ideology - no thing is made to look like any thing. This allows you to start the hallucination process within a contained space. You start to link bridges with other bridges, finding startling results and intricate story lines. It is not abstract art as I am showing specifically this trait. It is hallucinatory realism. It is without an over-riding storyline on top. Patterns are only ever referenced never shown - allowing you to absorb into the novelty of it. Please have a browse around, as I feel this is the community who would be open to new and subtle details of visual language which can only be evoked by those who have seen the world unbound. www.liamkey.com There are 3 other sites that are in the works. One is totally dedicated to being a research portal for artists in the context of Acacia use. www.acaciaarts.com (still being made) And another for anyone who would like to be involved www.theaustraliens.com (still being made). This site will focus on the website design being the art piece. Currently up is www.valleyofnovelty.com which is a randomly loading "gallery". Any psy artists can submit their works to be loaded into the novelty machine. I realise that all my shit is totally at a half way stage, but I am preparing to do a PhD in the field next year. I have a degree and Masters, and have been blocked by an ethics comittee at a University in QLD. I would really like to steer this artistic movement in a very progressive direction. One being to refine the work made to becoming research standard, thus allowing visions captured by artists to adhere to a strict protocol to enhance decipherment. There are many pitfalls when trying to transcribe a vision, and this is why it is just dumped with other design art pieces. More is being described in
