How to recognize a huanucoensis
AZS replied to trucha's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Mystery solved - only to lead to a greater mystery ( like so many of my other plants ) OK here goes: I got the two seedlings several years ago from an acquaintance who started them from seed and told me they were Werds. I didn't think twice about it and just put them in a pot in the back yard. I thought at the time that he got the seeds from his own plants but later found out that the seed source was supposedly Bach's in Tucson. ( Bach's later told me they don't sell seed ) So...not really sure where the hell these seeds came from but hopefully these two will flower and produce more! I would like to see these two crossed and also try to make some interesting hybrids. It may take a few more years before they flower, but if they do I will offer up some seeds - keep you fingers crossed! -

Hope this isn't drifting too much from the thread but here is a photo of one from the same seed batch. Each seed grown cactus is definitely an individual! -

How to recognize a huanucoensis
AZS replied to trucha's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Had to move all of the cacti a couple of years ago - just getting the plants and cuttings going at their new home. The Werdermannianus are in.. My main concern is the occasional "hard freeze" we get - I didn't want to risk any mother plants until I was sure of their cold tolerance. The Terscheckii is in... And...almost forgot to mention...It is in the ground just not in the front yard yet! -
Great idea!

Or nearly impossible! I completely gave up on keeping weeds and grass out. The Bermuda grass alone would be a full time job! There's no home owner's association here but the city will cite for weeds if you have a rock or gravel yard, but not with grass. So.... I decided to just plant the cacti in the yard with enough space to mow and trim around them! Have just begun...

Zelly's trich crosses, got pics? post here please
AZS replied to mushroomman's topic in Cacti & Succulents
*** I had great luck with all of Zelly's seeds - excellent germination and the seedlings are robust growers *** These seedlings were over-wintered outside ( in their tubs in case of frost ). As it turned out, we had a very mild winter with only one slight frost where these are located. I will start transplanting them this weekend - the weather today will be over 87 F - the larger one's 3 - 4" will go straight into 1 gal pots while the smaller one's will go into pots as "clumps" of 4 - 6 seedlings to grow a bit. -

More seedlings - 16 months old - Zelly's Peruvianus x Juuls -
I planted half of them in November and the smaller one's in late January. They are growing fast - popping out thicker spines in the full sun.

Great ideas everyone - I use T5HO Daylight bulbs and over-winter seedlings in my laundry room on shelves. I also use a fan to circulate air from the top shelf to the floor which keeps the temps even over all of the plants and on all shelves. This makes a big difference and really helps keep the conditions consistent. It also cuts down on fungus and mold which thrive in stagnant air.

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had.... Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague...and we are the cure.

I have a PC that starts to look a little like that with too much N - It won't hurt to cut back for several months to see if it clears up. Also, the monstrose Pach goes nuts with N

From Sacred Succulents Trichocereus List "...T. BBG? (which came unidentified from a plant sale at the Berkeley Botanical Gardens) likely a wild T. pachanoi, but with the largest flowers we’ve seen on a Trich." http://sacredsucculents.com/
