Pisgah Posted March 31, 2006 I like it. So, is that field of tiny perskiopsis tips a re-rooting tray for tips cut from grafts? Great idea for efficient reproduction if it is... Nice healthy roots on the hydro pereskis. Reasonably thick stems for indoor growth as well. What kind of light are you under? I need to carve out some time and set up a good hydro system for my pereskis. Good intentions. What about nutrients? Any changes to your solutions? Nice stuff. planthelper Posted March 31, 2006 hi, pisgah i think you overlooked that the peres in that photo have long stems 9it only looks at the first glance like they are tiny), so they can't be material left over from grafting. your idea is great, i tried once to graft further down the stem, giving me a leftover tip big enough to replant, but the scion seems to only take if just the tip gets cut off, and this 3mm to 10mm tip is not big enough to get used as a cutting. teonanacatl Posted March 31, 2006 ph i use under 10mm cuttings of peres to increase my stock, ive got 50 plants and will do that and end up with about 500 i guess. just need to cut either side of the areole, leave one leaf on and plant sideways, takes longer for plants to get to a reasonable size but it works. Salvi Posted March 31, 2006 (edited) Nah, that tray of pereskiopsis is just a bunch of cuttings i scavenged off some scraggly plants. I'm growing them under a 400 watt metal halide lamp. I've changed the nutrient once so far, I emptied the old and started with fresh solution. I haven't really been scheduling changes..just whenever I think it needs it, seems to be working so far. After a couple attempts at grafting onto the hydro peresks, I've had no luck so far. I think they may be too juicy. -_- I'll keep trying though, because I'd like to see if the grafts grow faster since the pereskiopsis seems a lot more lush. I figured I'd test out a friend's new digital camera, hence all the pictures. Edit: Pisgah, based on the first photo of the L. fricii, I think you were probably right that I should have went for the Dyna Gro Bloom, rather than Grow, formula. I decided to water my soil grown fricii grafts with it and they are now looking totally unnatural with the pups! Oh well, I love them all the same. Try grafting via normal technique then cut and reroot in hydro medium?
nate123 Posted March 31, 2006 I beleive that you're Ariocarpus fissuratus may be a Var. intermedius, but it's hard to tell from the photo. I'd look into that if i were you.
Salvi Posted April 1, 2006 Thanks apoth, if they give me more trouble I think I will do that. And thanks for that suggestion nate, I will look into it.
