Salviador Posted September 9, 2004 Hey all, Salviador here. Ive been running into random brizeb people all this week and everyone ive spoken to have told me that theyve been thinking about having a meeting in the near future. Plus Its been a big week for a lot of the brizeb crew, and i thought what better time to synchronise our paths, than now in this time of synchonicity So would anyone object if i were to suggest a meeting on the 23rd of this month (september) on a thursday night at the three monkeys starting at say 7:30pm? It would be great to catch up, and im sure weve all got a lot to say since we havent had a meet for so long ps if you know anyone who hasnt got this let them know... Regards Salviador

Torsten Posted September 9, 2004 is the brizeb mailing list still functional? haven't received any mail for ages.
Salviador Posted September 10, 2004 I don't know, we decided to basically leave topica for the shaman australis hosted one. I posted one on that today, but i havent received anything and neither has anyone else ive spoken to, ill see what mesq has to say on the subject... Its all a mystery. If anyone can be bothered who is a member of EBA could you mention something on that? Otherwise i fear that no one will hear about it what with mailing lists down and all... gomaos Posted September 10, 2004 likewise, I haven't received ANYTHING for ages, it must be "broken".
Torsten Posted September 10, 2004 the lists are working fine, so it must have been something the moderators did to that list. And we haven't heard anything from them for a while. I don't have access to the list once the mods take over, so there is little I can do to fix it. If they don't fix it I can set up a new list.

Torsten Posted September 11, 2004 Originally posted by reville: It was down 2 days ago becuse i was talking about the seedring and getting on the lists and it wasnt up Might have momentary, but the lists are running fine in general. Anyway, no mod has complained in any way so I presume there isn't a problem. Likewise the gallery only gave me directory pages with each pic a file. no option to upload Read the site forum!! We have a new gallery (the old one could not move servers or be recovered from a crash). Use the link from the homepage. In fact, this is good advice for everyone.... if something doesn't work then go to the homepage (navigation bar) and start from there. I've uploaded the pictures from the old gallery to their original locations so they can be accessed by pages that have these images embedded in them (eg many forum pages). However, there is no software to structure or collate them.
mesq Posted September 12, 2004 I have no access to the internet anymore really...and at the moment my life is pretty messy so if anyone else wants to admin the list that would be great... and stuff... I guess if anyone is still interested in the group we can talk about it at the meet...the group has caused alot of friendships to be made...and there is a group of us who still see each other quite regularly which was one of the motivations behind it... for me at least anyways... Id be glad to see it start moving again...
Torsten Posted September 13, 2004 I hope things improve for you soon mesq!! with bluetonguedragon too busy these days and mesq not on line, this really needs someone who has both the time and energy to get on top of it before it fizzles out. Brisbane had such a good thing going thanks to these two guys working at it really hard and it would be a shame for that to be lost.
ramon Posted September 13, 2004 I guess if anyone is still interested in the group we can talk about it at the meet... talk to you then
gomaos Posted September 20, 2004 and I'll be happy to have any future meetings at my place (again) can't come to this one.... no babysitter...so who's gonna take mesq's part?
Salviador Posted September 20, 2004 I'll be more than happy to moderate the list, i dont think we really need someone hugely involved to organise this group. I think if everyone shows a little enthusiasm and will to help, then we can get regular meets back online, and who knows, maybe even those fabled excursions we have all dreamed of. Oh well we can discuss it at the meet, this thursday.
Rev Posted September 21, 2004 sorry wont b at this one
Torsten Posted September 21, 2004 I won't make it to this one either, but then again this is really more for the brisbane core group to get itself sorted anyway. Just as long as you guys know you got our full support and we'll happily provide any mailing list or site needs you might have. While I agree that the Bris Botanic garden meetings got a little too big and unmanagable, they were certainly better than not having any at all. The location is great, but the format needs adjusting (maybe I am just keen on them cos it gets me to the gardens ) And for the smaller meetings Will's place is great. gomaos Posted September 21, 2004 I vote for Salviador to be our brisbane-ethnolist-moderator! [ 21. September 2004, 07:55: Message edited by: gomaos ]
Rev Posted September 22, 2004 I liked the botanic ones too it was great as a more approachable venue I would feel less inhibited going there than straight to wills if i didnt know him already Im interested though what exactly do the bris group want? what unique opportunities do they have to offer as an organised group? I would like answers to these also so we can honestly assess whether the status quo of a few friends hanging out swapping plants, knowledge etc stays or whether there is the need and desire, and a plan to make more of it. Im not fussed but then im not core. What i would like to see is the further use of the core to coordinate some excursions or events. A trip to the Near North (within 2 1/2 hours) in autumn would be good to investigate some Botanical occurences. For example finding Galbulimima would be easier with a group search. Of course it wouldnt be all work [ 21. September 2004, 21:14: Message edited by: reville ]
Salviador Posted September 22, 2004 Thanks for the support from all you N/NSW bogans Even just coming along to meets and sharing knowledge is great, not to mention afsr and forum... We had a list of activities made up that is not agreed upon neither legally or feasibly so it shouldnt go up here just yet... I'm thinking making a kitty of some description, but then again, we have thought about this before and time after time the same issues arise. Why trust one or two to take all your money, and actually finding a time when enough people can make it... Any ideas? Maybe user pays, but that gives us less degrees of freedom... I suppose this meeting will be an important one in deciding the future of brizeb *cue thunder and lightning*
ramon Posted September 22, 2004 I think that if we definately get some one to moderate the new list this week then we are doing well. Discussions about the future of Brizeb would be best held on that mailing list as this way all stakeholders have a chance to have a say instead of the ones who attend these forums or the meet this Thursday
Salviador Posted September 22, 2004 Theres also longer term goals, such as a library ( in some as yet undetermined format), a resource list, social/legal awareness/change. Unfortunately im a hopeless disorganisation, still teh dream is alive. I don't think we should really think about it in terms of "needs" just yet, at the moment, i like the idea of meeting up with people who share similar interests as me and just chatting/socialising/relaxing etc. I know a lot of others in the group who feel the same way. Hence there is the desire and vague vague vague plan, which will naturally lead to more if its meant to. I think that this is a good way to sort of ground the group. This its got a strong "root system" whereby brizeb can eventually grow and flower! A long way off but i can dream
gomaos Posted September 22, 2004 i like the idea of meeting up with people who share similar interests as me and just chatting/socialising/relaxing etc I feel the same way. If it wasn't for the ethno-group and these here forums I wouldn't know anyone like myself, since I don't go out/don't get a chance. In normal life I only seem to attract redneckish/conservative persons, if any at all... wonder why that is? I mean, not everything has to be organised all the time, just "go with the flow".... Rev Posted September 22, 2004 quote: Discussions about the future of Brizeb would be best held on that mailing list as this way all stakeholders have a chance to have a say instead of the ones who attend these forums or the meet this Thursday Ramon is the voice of reason again but i dont see why it cant all be said again elsewhere so ill continue just a bit If a structure is set up that can legally hold funds aside for its defined purposes i will donate goods from FF which can then be sold off as fundraisers Im sure other attendees also have items to raffle off occasionally If we use other community/special interest structures as examples this is a popular way to do it that easy to peddle and easy to organise My idea about a trip wouldnt be funded by anything but the attendees themselves in way of fuel and supplyng their own needs. Just a jungle trip
