when I lived in sydney I always knew of all the spped and RL camera spots. But not living there anymore makes it hard to keep up.

Luckily the ones on the Pacific Hwy are well marked

And btw, I have no problem with RL cameras. My beef is with speed cameras.... and really only certain ones. You know, the opportunistic ones that serve no other purpose than to create state government revenue.

On our recent drive to sydney we noticed that the harbour tunnel camera (and associated lightshow) had been removed. But we also saw warnign signs about cameras in the new M5 tunnels.... and try as we may, we couldn't see any that looked different to surveillance cameras. Is there a new camera that doesn't need high light conditions? Are all surveillance cameras now speed cameras?? anyone know??

Mid june this year thats only weeks away,no matter just drop us a bell dl should still have the number. and yes dl it is pretty much an open invitation to all, god knows it would be great just to be able to chat about more interesting things than football and i know your good for a chat , perhaps you could get torsten to follow you down with a box trailor :P you know them hogs :D

as for the cameras, how cool would it be to convert your number plate to james Bond type set up so you just flick a switch to spin it around showing some other number and flick it back once through the danger zone although that would be illeagle and wrong and i for one wouldn,t be involved in such a stunt

Yep. NSW, Vic and Qld have the new technology ones (can't remember the name). They were developed in australia. Only Canada has so far started using them, so none of the overseas radar detector companies have bothered making any new generation ones. There is an australian company that has started though. The good ones are about $1400.

Keep it there. They are useless in all eastern Oz states. Might be of use in SA though

Fine for having a radar detector in your car is about $1000. Daniel was the first and second person in the world to be caught by the new technology . Still stumped why they started employing them at the Byron Bay Hwy Patrol rather than down in Sydney....

Do you need more notice?? (hmmm, why??)

god knows it would be great just to be able to chat about more interesting things than football

LOL. you can be sure that that is one topic that I will never start and know nothing about

and i know your good for a chat

are you saying we talk too much ?? you're probably right....

perhaps you could get torsten to follow you down with a box trailor :P

Na, we'll bring the ute, so if she is in no condition to ride back we can chuck her in the back (with the bike).

Well, you can do something almost as good and totally legal. I used to have these special plate covers. th surface is made up of 45 degree mirrored plastic surfaces, created by clever use of polrised plastics i think. Anyway, if you look at the stright on you can see the numbers clear as if looking through a normal plastic cover. But if you look at a 45 degree angle all you get is 100% glare. As virtually all cameras snap at 45 degrees (or close to it), your plate will appear as a flash on the film. The added bonus is that some of these versions also come with a laser scatterer built in, so that any lasergun pointing at you cannot get a reading for about 2 seconds. If you have a laser detector then all you need is 1-2 seconds to slow down to below speed limit (if you're only doing 20 or so over).

Cops never notice the plate covers. So many times I got pulled over (breathalised etc) and the cop would walk to the front to write down the plate. At the normal angle they can't see anything, so they have to walk right in front of your car. They never mentioned anything, cos the law just says that the plate has to be visible from 40m. It doesn't say what angle.

Anyway, at the time when Daniel and I were doing in excess of 100,000 kilometers per year, we had the full kit and never got a ticket. We also never pushed our luck (ie never more than 29 over), and never sped off the HWY.
