Evil Genius Posted July 4, 2005 The four directions:-) I actually never saw these brigessii monstrose forms go back to the normal growth again. Looks really cool!
teonanacatl Posted July 4, 2005 wicked hows propagation going
Rev Posted July 4, 2005 its not really these r my only specimens so far when i get some $$$ ill go back to the source for more materials if they are still available i have no idea how stable these forms are the 4 ribs in particular reverts sometimes - see the pup below to the left has 6 ribs so that more advanced forms of propagation have dubious value - such as areole grafting
AndyAmine. Posted July 4, 2005 now that melted wax form is kool.. Iiii just gots ta get one!
planthelper Posted July 4, 2005 the welted wax monstrous is not a real monstrous form, but rather a normal brigesii. if one takes a cutting from cacti's they sometimes start growing in a monstrous or better say candlelight fashion, i got a specimen which i think is a scop which did the same thing. so sorry but this is not a monstrous form. real monstrous forms will never revert back to normal, well never say never, but you know what i mean, valvoline,lol... so that means one cannot probagate a candle cacti, as sooner or later they will start growing normal again. sorry andyamine, forget your wish... toby Posted July 5, 2005 The 'melted wax' is quite different to the usual shinier skinned bridgesii tho.. tends to grow a bit thicker, I made one cutting from this type, (normal growing section)and it turned monstroe again! Don't know if it's a useful form tho..
Rev Posted July 5, 2005 AndyAmine.: Well Ive got about 150 bridgesii seeds to germinate this spring so hopefully Ill get one out of that eh PH.. good lucki grew out over 1000 seeds and found bridgesii to be suprisingly uniform so far. a bit of variation in spine length and growth artes but thats all not a single cristate, monstrose or variegated one ina the whole lot whereas most of my other seed - turbinicarpus, lophs, echinopsis hybrids, astros throw a large percentage of muatnt forms maybe something to do with being in cultivation longer vs wild collected seeds and Turps that makes sense i spoke to the source and it isnt stable but i think the traits is inbuilt and it fluctuates, reverting back and forth P/helper i would say its IS "monstrose" just not in the same way as the dick plant its def not normal so it must be a kind of monstrose
