apothecary Posted March 27, 2005 Hey, this question mostly aimed at darcy ('cos he sells them) but anyone else who has grown this succulent. Mother just got back from the beach with 5 or 6 plantlets of coastal pigface. Standard cacti propagation? Cut bottom, callous and plant? Do these things grow in plain beach sand (as photos I've seen suggest) or will they do ok in soil too? Thanks.
caludia Posted March 27, 2005 i sell em too!! they are very easy. Seed is ludicrously easy... you will wind up with pigfaces in all your special pots, and be weeding them for the next 2 months
apothecary Posted March 27, 2005 Uh dude, you kind of forgot to say how you propagate cuttings
caludia Posted March 27, 2005 sorry, they will do fine in normal soil. Give their roots some room too!
caludia Posted March 27, 2005 quote: Uh dude, you kind of forgot to say how you propagate cuttings [Razz] that's cos i prop by seed... As wittgenstein advised, i am just "passing over in silence".... if cuttings dont work for you then i'll send you some seed, cos you seem nice enough [ 27. narayan Posted March 29, 2005 Recentley i took some cuttings from a small aptenia plant which is another member of the Aizoaceae family. All i did was cut off a piece which had a few leaves and stick it in some cacti potting mix and keep it pretty wet for a couple of weeks and its going pretty well. smogs Posted March 30, 2005 from memory this was discussed on SAB AGES ago... to the conclusion that there are only trace amounts and it wouldnt be worth trying to extract it... specially when u already have something like sceletium! i have eaten a shitload of fruit and found no noticeable effects
apothecary Posted March 31, 2005 I didn't post this for ethnobotanical interest, just that mother brought some home and wanted me to get it rooted, because she likes the look of the flowers
