Ashoka Posted May 31, 2003 Hi Tree, To me it looks like a Cereus of some sort. I'm pretty sure.. It's probably a Cereus peruvianus hybrid.. It's an ok grafting stock, I've heard, but a Trichocereus pachanoi would perhaps be better.. Ashok [ 30. May 2003, 19:19: Message edited by: Ashoka ]
woof woof woof Posted May 31, 2003 cerues indeed..... a C. Peruvianus or C, hexagonus maybe. could / should work as a grafting stock. But it looks a little more difficult to me then a standard trichoserues. [ 31. May 2003, 09:57: Message edited by: brian ]
Tree Posted June 1, 2003 Thanks for your help with the ID and grafting advice. A Cereus - I have an 8' cacti with 4 main branches growing in the back yard. I think I will stick to the Trichocereus pachanoi for grafting but I may try in the Cereus in future for interest sake. Thanks again [ 31. M S Smith Posted June 1, 2003 This Cereus species is commonly used here in the States for grafting larger clumping cacti. I once had a beautiful Matucana madisoniorum grafted to one of these that bloomed prolificly.

Slarty Fart Blaster Posted June 5, 2003 I thought some of you might like to see this wee thingy that sprouted when i left my cutting in the dark too long. Here are some i was talking about in a post i cant find. Anyone care to i.d them.I thought they were Pachys but they look like Perus ?. Opps the preview showed me that the pic needs rotating any way of doing this ?.
woof woof woof Posted June 7, 2003 I'll sample them for you slarty! :D They look like some of the (sold as ) Patchanoi that I have. I suspect that yours could be a hybrid.... The weird thing about mine is that sometimes with cuttings, some come out looking more like bridgesii and others grow more like Patchanoi,... (cuttings sometimes show more bridgesii like growth and spinniation)
Slarty Fart Blaster Posted June 10, 2003 Thnx for that Brian, I had no idea that there were hybrids, but now i think about it, why not ?.
