Thigmotropic response of L. williamsii stamens (video)
Ashoka replied to Ashoka's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Thanks for the comments. I simply had to share this. I found out that the reaction is not thigmotropic but thigmonastic. I corrected the OP. -
Hi, Finally my oldest Lophophora williamsii flowered. I wanted to help pollinate it and I noticed to my surprise and general excitement that the stamens immediately contracted when touched. This was something completely new to me so I shot the following video: This is called thigmonasty and is similar to what you see when you touch the leaves of Mimosa pudica. It made my day. :D Edited to correct mistake.

A sceletium? I doubt it. Please help ID..
Ashoka replied to Ashoka's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Thanks for the replies. Someone from the netherlands sent a cutting of this plant to my friend and I guess they believed it to be a Sceletium. Concerning the effects my friend used to chew the leaves straight off the plant and said he felt stimulated afterwards. I tried it with him once, but I can't recall any specific effects since I was drunk at the time. Maybe I should bioassay it again. Does the Crassulaceae contain anything poisonous? Auxin, I lurk here often, but post rarely. This forum is one of the best on ethnobotany on the net. -

No ideas whatsoever? Do you at least agree that the plant in question is not a Sceletium? -

Ashoka posted a question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
A friend of mine was given the plant below as a sceletium. It is clearly not a Sceletium, but what is it then? My friend said it was active and he used it many times. The mother plant and a cutting. Closeup of motherplant: -
That's a Boletus erythropus. It is said to be mildly hallucinogenic.

I would love a pack. If you're willing to send them across the world to Denmark.

Labyrinths by Borges. A collection of superb short stories dealing with paradoxes like infinity and time. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The dropped/lost/smoking non-existant cigarette theme is one I've seen reappear in many trip reports on tropane induced experiences. There is some kind of connection going on here the question is if its related to the alkaloid profile, the plant group or something "spiritual", or perhaps all of the above. Anyone else noticed this?

Have you guys checked out TinyXp? Pretty cool stuff. I am currently running TinyXp on an old Acer PII laptop, it boots faster than my stationary. http://thepiratebay.org/search.php?q=tinyxp

I would say it's a Matucana madisonorum.
