Floyd Posted March 19, 2018 Hi all, Anyone know where to buy macadamia seeds? The variety isn't important, only the price and germination rate. Close to Coffs Harbour area is best. Any ideas?
Northerner Posted March 19, 2018 I'm interested too.
Halcyon Daze Posted March 19, 2018 Tecnically they're called 'nuts' . What I did was I went around the neighbourhood until I found a couple trees down a back lane and just picked them up off the ground and sprouted them. If you want them for commercial purposes then look around for someone who is grafting them and place an order. Just remember there are a few different species from different areas. The sweetest one is the one from nth NSW, I think it's tetraphylla, but it's not used commercially because it's sweeter nuts don't store for as many months as integrifolia does. Also the tetraphylla nuts are slightly oval rather than perfectly round which is better for commercial. Just look around the neighbourhood until you find a couple different trees. Knock on a door if you have to.
