Evil Genius Posted January 15, 2015 Hey mate, Yowies are closely related to DROPPING BEARS, which jump from the trees to terribly scratch your back. And yeah, a couple of guys here saw a Yowie once and I am as thrilled as you are to hear their stories. And on Top of that, we might even find out some actual Info about the clone for the database.

2XB Posted January 15, 2015 Hi ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Yowie is one of my faves too! here is a little info from another thread; http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28043&p=305674 Yowie, T. pachanoi. Clone originates in Yarrawonga Victoria although other large plants of the same type are found throughout Au as it is easily identified due to its distinct double downward pointing spines. I was directed to the mother plant of this clone by sab member Marsha, previously known as Yowie. This clone is also in the Fields collection and is one of the plants imported from South America.
cactuscarl Posted January 15, 2015 Man my yowie looks way different to that... I seen a plant the other day that reminded me of yowie and it was listed as something other than pachanoi...one of those trichocereus I'd never heard the name of before. I'll try to find it.
Strontium Dawg Posted January 16, 2015 Yowie pups like a demon, and grows very fast too. I'm getting 10+cm a month on all columns at the moment.

I seen a plant the other day that reminded me of yowie and it was listed as something other than pachanoi...one of those trichocereus I'd never heard the name of before. I'll try to find it. I've seen some people theorise that Yowie may be a T.pallarensis due to the longer spines.
Evil Genius Posted January 16, 2015 Hi TheExplorer, well that would actually be possible. It looks similar to it. Would love to see more pics showing Yowie at a bigger Size. I have a Yowie but it´s not as big as the ones i´ve seen in oz.

I have a Yowie but it´s not as big as the ones i´ve seen in oz. That's just what I have seen some people say, and a popular eBay cactus seller was selling a similar looking plant as pallarensis a while ago. Me personally, I think Yowie is a wild pachanoi form.

☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) yeah I was thinking yesterday that Id hate to be the person to have ID'd it as a pachanoi and feel a want to think its a different species @ Cactuscarl.. It lost a lot of spines in me while i was panicking to hold it together and dry-pot it up after it arrived broken in 2 (where the vaseline is on the plant) I think there's only one areole left that looks like the classic yowie areole that I had known prior to this one arriving, seemed to have more in the pics at its previous home and the long ones that are left look like whiskers in a way if its a nice sunny day , and if I get time, I'll take better areole pics of as many as I can find that still have spines your making me wonder how many different plants go by the name yowie now... would be nice to grow several different Yowies for sure! Thanks Glaukus , that's a big relief, I was beginning to think my flowering and seed making plans had been buggered for a few years before id even worked out how to reliably flower trichos, at least she'll bounce back and be 'right oh yeah , i cant help but see trichos that are not old man of the andes types/validus/terscheckii/pasacana/hugefattys - as she's , (even taquimbo gets a 'she' from me) I appreciate folk see them as he's tho, so just in case: no offense meant in calling yowie a girl , girls rawk! and gratefully , I get to grow one thanks originally to a girl! paradox Posted January 16, 2015 i've found identical plants to Yowie in NSW, not throught this community. always wondered if they were all the same clone. Most probably i'd say..
paradox Posted January 16, 2015 gotta say though thunderhorse, your Yowie specimen is probably the shiniest, most light-green & manky looking one ive seen ;) though i'm sure it'll come good..yowie usually has a distinctly matte, dark green tone..
