Single plant growth 2007-2012

Recommended Posts

Found some old photos of my garden early on in an archived email!

First photo is from April 2007. The first plant I ever put in the ground, my third cutting EVER in my life.

Second photo is from December 2012.

I'm talking about the plant on the left, in the ground.

Never cut, never fertilised, never watered. In shallow loam over heavy clay. Annual rainfall 420mm, winter dominant, mostly dry Oct-March. Occasional frost in winter, very hot in summer. Cutting was 60-80cm from memory, planted in Feb/March 2006.

Note the bathtub for comparison. Bathtub has not moved.

Not really sure if it's quick or slow or moderate, but it's interesting.

I'm one of the few growers that get to grow in ground and the difference seen in plants is like day & night.

take your best pot grown columnar cacti, put it in the ground, and watch its girth double on new growth
