GoOnThen Posted December 24, 2013 Just a quick question when do you pick Catha seed pods. Is it ok to pick them before they open and then pry them open or do you let them open themselves. I understand you can bag them and let them do there thing and that is ok for my small plant but I want to harvest seeds of a large tree. I would like to collect as many viable seeds as possible as I don't think this tree is a normal red and there is thousands of pods on it now. These are where the pods are at on my small plant. It has been suffering a bit lately through lack of water. We have had visitors again ripping our plant apart so my wife wrote them a note. You can no longer see this from the road so someone has told them where it is from about 3 years ago. I have been told it definitely has to go this time and so must all red Catha. upside Posted December 24, 2013 There was a shrub in the front yard of a house I rented in Inglewood over 10 years ago now,, it was always being stripped. As soon as new growth came thru they'd be back tipping it again. Much the same size as yours GOT. Some would try and buy the plant off me, others wanted to swap it for a little cutting lol there was a few large trees in the surrounding neighbourhoods that they weren't aware of. Without giving specific directions I told them other Khat was out there, their eyes lit up! Still tho, they pestered me for exact location,, I wanted them to find it! So never gave in ;-) I moved down south and went back for a nostalgic look a few years later,, the whole plant gone. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Halcyon Daze Posted December 24, 2013 Looks like you have some pods already opening so pick the whole branch about 50 cm long. Tie a big brown paper bag over the pods and hang the whole thing upside down in the garage. Give it a little shake every couple of days and you'll hear how much seed has dropped. After a couple weeks the seeds will be sitting there, nice and dry, ready to sow or store. 4 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
